Before reporting a bad ad on Neowin, read this.. 1 2 3

It helps if you can submit a report on the ad, in Chrome, right click on the page and select "Inspect element" then the magnify glass to select the element (the ad) which then shows the code for it. I need this. At the very least screenshot the ad, it helps if I know what company it is as well. Don't just say "there's an ad that auto expands/plays video/audio" I can't really report that. I need specifics! If it is a Google ad: You can identify Google ads by the AdChoices link that appears over all ads in one of the corners. If an ad is redirecting or popping up anything, then this is a bad ad, Neowin does not al…

It was suggested in another thread that this be posted for clarity, so here goes. Should a Neowin member choose not to participate on Neowin anymore, there are 2 things you can do.. Log out, don't come back. Clear out your profile by removing any personally-identifying information (Pii) and follow step 1. If we continually deleted accounts, especially those from members who were warned by our moderators and/or for whatever reason got angry with something that happened here, we would have a small member base. So really it is entirely up to you as a member if you want to be part of Neowin or not. Neowin also never…

If you have never had a run in with a Neowin forum/news comments moderator and have been here a while, then we're doing a good job. If you have, I hope you appreciate the bs we have to put up with all the time :p Be cool, thank a (Neowin) moderator today! :)

Learn a forum rule: Trolls and Trolling 1 2
by Fred Derf- 33 replies

Q. What is a troll? A. A troll is someone who will state something only with the intention of stirring up controversy. Q. What is trolling? A. Trolling is the art of taking a civilized discussion and turning it into a battleground through the use of over-the-top opinions or unverified claims that incite others. It can also be called "flame baiting" since the practice often is intended to get other members to respond emotionally with personal attacks. Q. Why doesn't Neowin like trolling? A. Trolling causes two problems. 1) Members get annoyed when their civilized discussion takes a sudden IQ nosedive. 2) It creates work for our moderating staff. Q. Doesn't Neowin wan…

Q. OMG, I got a warning! Now what? A. First of all, being assigned a warning on Neowin is not the end of the world (nor is it a badge of honour). We have an automatic warning reduction system that, after six months of good behavior, will reduce your warning level by 20% (currently it is offline for maintenance but we hope to get it up again soon, it's online again). Normally, warnings do not affect your use of Neowin in any way. You may notice that your warning level increased by 20% but it is invisible to all members other than staff so no one else will know that you are anything other than an angel. :innocent: If you think that your warning was not fair or just the…

Guidelines for avatars and signatures: The maximum overall size for signatures is 170px (high) by 550px (wide). This includes text, images, and other signature elements. File sizes should be no larger than 20 KB and 75 KB. This applies to avatars and signatures, respectively. For signatures, this applies to the combined file sizes of multiple images. Note, smaller file sizes are preferred so please be mindful of our members with slower Internet connections. Below is an example of a signature with the maximum size dimensions: Signatures/Avatars will be removed if they... Exceed the file size and maximum overall size limits. Contain graphic material of a pornographi…

I have tried on phone for many weeks, but also on a computer. If I have not already logged into Google on Neowin.net, then it gives me a "client deleted" error. I had to create an MS login just to post this.

Mobile ads making it very tough to use the forums...

The constant page shifting and jumping is very bad with the current scroll through ads, etc. They are causing many miss clicks on topics and make it very challenging to even read what has been posted.

Y'all might have some style issues to address

When scrolling an article, it feeds into the header. Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/103.0.5060.53 Safari/537.36 Edg/103.0.1264.37 Seems fine in Firefox. its also fine if I artificially limit the useragent. Maybe I'm losing my mind. It doesn't show on mobile (at all) or on the desktop if I'm browsing half screen (Chrome/Edge). It appears fine full screen (and even just slightly more than half-screen) and in the correct location. It should appear below all the FPN articles when on either mobile/half-screen...?

Gaps between posts in Firefox 100.0.1
by cork1958- 6 replies

Why am I suddenly seeing gaps between posts when using Firefox 100.0.1? This is a quick screen shot of last post I made on another topic. Edit: Nope, not seeing those gaps in Edge 101.0.1210.47 Edit 2: Just checked several of the topics on front page and every topic with 5 or more posts is placing those gaps between some posts.

I do not use an adblocker, nor PiHole etc... There is a modal DIV being added that covers my whole neowin article area on the homepage. <div class="modal" id="profile-card"> <div class="modal-window profile-card"> </div> </div> I can't click anything below the header area. Thank you. EDIT : Of course: 2 mins later and the links are clickable again. Brilliant.

Unable to comment on certain articles. 1 2

I'm unable to post comments on certain articles on the site. For instance, I cannot make comments on the article Here. Any ideas what might be happening? It's not a cache issue because I tried with both Edge and Firefox with the same results. When I press the "Add Comment" button, nothing happens, except I get that "No" sign.

For some reason subscriptions stopped expiring in October last year. In early October I could see that a subscription was being expired and then later in October they weren't. This was brought to my attention by someone who was unable to see when it was ending (which should always be here https://www.neowin.net/subscribe/) Anyway, the developers have manually expired the subscriptions that have run over for almost 4 months or less, so that is why some of you may suddenly see that you no longer have a subscription. You'll be able to confirm your subscription period from the PayPal payment to subscribe -at- neowin -dot- net if you want proof from me …

Unusual full stop in code
by VWW- 1 follower

Hi, I've noticed in the last 24-48 hours my browser is giving me a warning that the code has errors on Neowin's main page and all news articles. Took me a few minutes but I found that there's now an extra full stop hidden before the <body> tag, right at the end of the line with the 2nd rel=canonical link tag. A strange thing to add there and I can't imagine what the purpose would be so I assume it was just an accident.

@ Mini Spy

I can not recreate this instance BUT.. If you guys know anything.. I have an OLD thread (about Smart Lights in General) that hasn't been posted since Nov 30. It hasn't been locked either. But I see it in Mini Spy. Why? No one posted today. Unless some Mod deleted the post right away.. Advertising or whatnot. I'm using vanilla Mini Spy. I haven't altered it in any way.
