?Tis the season to ? prevent pine tree theft by spraying them with a foul-smelling repellent? Something like that.

One New Jersey town has been victim of this Christmas tree theft around the holiday, with residents stealing trees during the happy season. Now, the mayor of Port Republic is fighting back in an interesting way.

Mayor Gary Giberson said his friends in the forest industry made a recommendation, telling him to combine deer repellent with moss bunker juice to ward off the thieves. The result? Fox News correspondent Trace Gallagher described the stench as a mix between rotten eggs and rotten fish. Mmmmmm.

?When you get within five feet of that tree, you won?t want to take it into your living room,? Giberson said he was told. Sure enough, not a single tree has been stolen since the spray was used. Well, let?s say we?re not surprised.

If they smell that bad they sure can keep them.

^ You'd think the thieves could hose off the trees.

Why go through so much trouble to steal a tree? They're not that expensive. I wonder what these cheapskates do for decorating their trees?

If I was going to steal a tree I'd want one all decorated and everything. Decorating is such hard work.

Decorating always falls under the 'fun' category for me. ;)

This is stealing uncut trees from the city's property. So this is fair. Just go buy one its what 25$.

^ Depends on the size, variety, and location of the trees being sold.

You can spend 75 to $100 in some areas.

I can't stand it. I love Christmas, and I love the decorations, I just hate doing them.
