Bought a Cheap Android Tablet, Weird Resolution Problem

Recommended Posts

Quoted resolution is

800*480

But everything on the screen seems stretched.

It's as though it isn't running the native resolution. Circles become ovals, squares become rectangles and text is quite clearly taller than it's supposed to be.

Any ideas how to fix this? Even if it means rooting it and editing some files?

Looks fine on other screens see!

So the display is either:

Higher resolution than they state and it scales the UI down, or the opposite... Hmmm....

Modify it to look like a Nexus 7

Already did this btw, I didn't intend to make mine look like a nexus 7 but with that launcher, I thought it sort of did :)

Maybe your tablet exists in a different space and time and things appear different there to the human eye...................

"Come on guys work with me here I am making this S#!T up as I go along" :)

Did you have a look through the settings menu for a stretch image or similar option?

EDIT or in the viewer software that your using.

It's apparent when using the device that everything is stretched, I just opened firefox with that circle image to make it easier to see. It's even clear that the circle you drag to unlock is elongated too.

The only thing I can see with display options that are relevant are for HDMI and they dont seem to affect the actual devices screen

I think the best way to describe the problem is as though it's trying to display everything at 4:3 and then stretching it to 16:9, that's why the stretching is more pronounced in portrait mode... :/

Did you try a factory reset in the end?

No but I found another forum where someone described the exact same issue. They put it down to the fact that jelly bean doesn't expect such a low resolution to begin with so the maker of the device must have done some weird scaling/stretching trick for it to work at all :/

Seems strange, I've never seen any hacks that allow resolution change for Android, only LCD Density modding from /system/build.prop

EDIT - Probably the same forum you found but explains the issue

http://androidforums...80-tablets.html

Someone managed to find some settings you can change but so far has not fixed it

http://stackoverflow...ok-like-ellipsi

lcd_dclk_freq = 33

lcd_if = 0

lcd_hbp = 46

lcd_ht = 1055

lcd_vbp = 23

lcd_vt = 1050

At a guess I would say V=Vertical and H=Horizontal

You'd need root to edit those files though

Oh well, at least it's my girlfriends and not mine :)

Still annoying but I'll be getting a tablet with 1280x800 :D

    • Well i'll look into a docking station if needed and use that.    Normally i don't usually have all the drives connected at once,  usually once a month to sync the latest files, and then they go back in there storage area

    • Salesforce to acquire Fin, formerly Intercom, for over $3 billion by David Uzondu Image via DepositPhotos.com Salesforce today announced that it has reached an agreement with customer support software company Fin to buy the company for around $3.6 billion. Salesforce expects the transaction to close in the fourth quarter of its fiscal year 2027, and the acquisition will not change its financial guidance previously announced on May 27. Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, in its press release, claimed that acquiring the startup gives Salesforce an immediate AI agent that resolves support tickets across email, WhatsApp, SMS, and Slack: You might know Fin by its former name, Intercom. If you have ever been on a website or inside a mobile app and noticed a little chat bubble widget floating in the bottom right corner of your screen, often featuring a friendly face and a message like, "Hi! How can we help you today?" you were almost certainly looking at Intercom. Intercom became Fin just last month, transforming itself into an "AI-first" platform that handles customer issues with little need for humans to intervene. The new name originates from the company's highly successful AI customer service agent, which it launched way back in 2023. This digital assistant supposedly resolves about 76% of customer service volume end-to-end on its own, so the business rebranded to match its primary software tool. Fin's new owners, Salesforce, went on an acquisition spree over the last few years, and some of them you might recognize, like its 2020 $27.7 Billion acquisition of Slack. The last few months saw the enterprise giant buy several startups, including m3ter, Momentum, Cimulate, and Contentful. Salesforce said that when the Fin deal pulls through, customers will "deploy AI agents across" various service operations, which will complement Agentforce, the platform that enables businesses to deploy customizable autonomous digital workers.
