Good uTorrent alternative?

Question

Been using utorrent since way back when, even some of its features are down to requests from me (before it changed so drastically)

Anyways, I've just started using Deluge in conjunction with a seed box (was becoming a bit disillusioned with that which should not be named *coughusenetcough*, so thought I'd give it a shot). Working well so far :)

I started with azarus back in the day then switched to utorrent and have used it ever since, the only issues i have had are with long path names which i complained about but got told by a forum user on the utorrent site "This is nothing to do with utorrent it is a windows issue" when i asked why a simple check could not be done by utrrent before downloading started he just kept saying its a windows issue...

As for limiting my upload/download speeds i dont but i do close utorrent when my torrents are complete and before someone says i dont seed ive uploaded 10gb more than i downloaed in the past 31 days :)

Will give deluge ago in the near future though loks ok from the screens i saw.

vuze is the most bloated of them all anymore (actually it's been bloated since the name became vuze)

Not really, you can disable the video stuff, and it doesn't really ad that much on to the code. what it is however is the most powerful and flexible client.

I have the choice of multiple web interface on my server, I can run rss feeds, I have categories that puts stuff in their own folders and stuff gets auto categorized by trackers and other filters. No other client has been able to do any of this as well as vuze does. And it hardly uses any resources on my Server, it just runs nicely in the background picking up any torrent I drop in the import folder.

I sort of don't use any kind of Torrent client but there is a good one out there. It's called Vuze. It was updated recently (sometime last year). I love it. So if you want a good torrent client other than uTorrent, then I would suggest Vuze.

uTorrent 3.3.0.28883 is the best alternative.

That's still uTorrent. He's looking for a uTorrent alternative.

For some reason the only client that works best for me is uTorrent. I get good connections to peers and the download speed is good.

I have tried Transmission, Deluge, Vuze, qBitorrent and none of them even come close to the transfer speeds as uTorrent. Maybe I have configured something wrong...

Honestly I have to agree, as far as saying uTorrent is the best for me. I have never had any transfer speed issues with any of the clients you listed, but after trying them all, uTorrent simply seems to have every feature I need without the need for plugins or anything and in a lighter-weight package than all the others.....I have tried every popular torrent client out there, and for my usage, none of them compare to uTorrent.

I will say though, Vuze is about the worst torrent client I've ever used. It is so slow and crashes so often, I'm surprised it's still around.

I recently went back to uTorrent for those reasons. Now when I opened it today it was chock full of ads. Removed that damn thing and did a spyware scan. Didn't find anything but I don't know what the hell uTorrent did to my PC.

Now I'm using Transmission-QT again, still not getting the same amount of connections but there really isn't much open-source options for Windows.

You can turn all those ads off, and it's not chocked full of ads. I've used a bunch of different torrent programs and always com back to uTorrent. I have yet to find one that gives me all the options and ease of use that uTorrent does.

My OS is English, my locale settings are Nrowegian, cause you know, I'm in Norway, and American and British, measure thing in weird ways and have crazy punctuation on numbers and stuff.

Deluge sets the language based on the type of number setting you use, NOT the language setting, hence why I complained it used the locale setting and NOT the language setting.

I haven't ran Norwegian locales or languages in anything since around 2002 when I got my first Windows XP computer :p

This is coming from someone who is a co-translator for Messenger Plus, and who used to translate for eMule Plus - I hated Norwegian language in software before then, but being a translator taught me respect for people who have to come up with some innovative new words that don't sound completely dumb when translating.

Balls to that I say, it was invented in English and it stays in English. People can take their "mykvare" and shove it

It probably also helps that I've been thinking in English ever since said WinXP computer was acquired alongside my first internet connection.

Aaaaanyway, back on topic:

Personally I still like uTorrent - as others have mentioned, turning off the ads is easy. I'll remember qBittorrent if they ever remove those options for non-Plus users, though.

Well as long as you're in Norway you pretty much have to have Norwegian locale/location, unless you want everything in useless inches, miles and Fahrenheit :p language setting stays and has stayed english since 3.1 and 95, and dos, but that didn't really have one :p

main problem with utorrent is that it tends to totally rape the network, even with identical settings to other torrent programs as far as connection and transfer settings go. might be better now, but I only use it for small local stuff, everything else goes through the import folder with vuze on my htpc/server, which imports, filters and sorts everything by category and folder automatically.

The UK uses Celsius too, you silly Viking :p

And the United Kingdom location setting provides measurements in Metric: https://dl.dropbox.c...tricsetting.png

I didn't know that the network molestation was a uTorrent thing... I might have to try alternatives because I have noticed that.

qbitorrent works just as fast as utorrent for me, I can always max my bandwidth on a well seeded torrents. it supports all the bittorrent features utorrent does too (utp etc...)

my only problem with qbittorrent was the WebUI is very buggy (doesn't like to render fully). as i use the webui quite a bit that in itself is enough to turn me away from it

I'm trying out deluge right now, and it's pretty good but I miss some of the things about the utorrent webui (mostly how it manages multiple save folders)

but then I might as well use the Norwegian location setting, it has all the proper measurement, punctuations and number value and the correct curency. and the language setting is separate so I can have my OS and any properly coded app in English :)

yeah, utorrent at least used to be horrible with the network, even nearly killing routers without even providing max speed.

qTorrent is a great alternative if uTorrent starts developing bugs that affects your usage in the current builds. I tend to find myself switching from uTorrent to qTorrent / visa-versa every 3-6 months (mostly due to web interface or CPU usage issues).

Yes, i am looking for alternatives as well, but i do like utorrent (when it works) anyway, i was banned at forum.torrent.com for posting a question in 2 relevant threads; i think they didnt like the question;

my question was;

what is the most recent stable utorrent build that respects the upload limit?

i know 3.1 worked for me; but i didnt want to deinstall/install 20 different builds between 3.1 and 3.3.1 to figure it out. i was hoping maybe someone did this already and could give the answer straight off.

    • The limited imaginations and business acumen of non-dominant players is simply that: the abject lack of creative business acumen. Businesses often want to operate in a financially-rewarding marketplace (free market economics) and/or exit/cash-out at maximal financial recompense. Money is their incentive; regulations are both their obstacles and their tools; politics is their means of influencing the marketplace. Google, in this story's example, is crying that AWS and Azure are "too dominant" -- cuz Google Cloud is not printing as much money as Alphabet wants (although it is still dramatically more than they actually need). The EU DMA should truly follow-the-money and treat the EU as its own sovereign nation in order to protect European market players: Domestic entities are exempt from market-influence regulations until absolute monopoly is achieved; Foreign (non-EU/non-Euro) entities are all regulated via stricter DMA measures whereby regulated partnership with independent domestic entity becomes the only way for foreign entities to 'tip the scale' for favorable financial remunerations. Basically create a dual-track aligning with China's foreign investment models. In my eyes, this is the only way to properly protect the European marketplace beyond the current dot-com/ai-bubble/social-media crazes.
