Good uTorrent alternative?

You have the capacity for 980KB/s and you only share 32KB/s, that's nice of you.

I have a 250 GB bandwidth cap per month (that's dl and ul combined), and I'm not the only one that uses the connection. But thanks for pre-judging.

I also have same 250GB limit.. Don't come anywhere close to it.. Have multiple machines and users on the internet. Multiple laptops, multiple tablets, multiple phones - my desktops, my servers. Shoot I serve up ntp to the public internet via pool.ntp.org both ipv4 and ipv6 with setting of 384 Kbit each.

And I can tell you I download a **** load of linux distros a month ;) And then share those distro's via my dropbox with my son. And I have a crappy 2mbit upload pipe -- and I set my upload limit to 132KB (edited after hawkman noticed my typo of kb), which is half my pipe.

Your uploading at 980KBytes -- thats a pretty hefty upload pipe you got there.. 8Mbits or so?? And you want to limit your upload to 32KBytes? 256kbits, or about 3% of your upload pipe?? Yeah that is not judging -- that's just fact your a leech ;)

Maybe utorrent can not just throttle down to such a low percentage of your pipe?? Does it work if you say throttle it to something realistic like 50 or 75% or even 25% of your pipe?

Just go back to an old version of utorrent ( < ver. 3). Their new stuff is bloated ****.

How exactly is it bloated? It has the same interface since version 1.x, how hard can it be to just go to options menu and disable everything that you don't like.

It's file size is less than 1 MB, and with 75 active torrents it consumes 35 MB of ram, what more do you want? I've tested every alternative out there and every one of them feels far bloated than uT. Nobody likes to customize things this days, just 1 click and everything HAS to be perfect or it sucks, no matter what it is, just like the ones who hate Win 8, which in fact I find the start menu more useful than both XP and 7.

Anyway, for upload limit I just right click on the status bar where upload is located and set to whatever I want, It never passes that limit (uTorrent 3.2.3).

I dont really like uTorrents new stuff either. Wont be long till microtransactions make its way in. The UI feels totally different than before, i realize its cause theyre trying to generate revenue though.

The status bar shows 32 KB/s (a circle next to it). Means nothing, uTorrent ignores it.

I'm done talking about this now, I have what I want: alternatives.

nah utorrent an throttle as low as you want it to..

btw did you mess up the b/B on one of the values of your upload pipe/limit if 132kbps is half of 2mbit ? :)

Yup good catch -- you are correct my good sir, I did typo that its 132KB not kb.. See OP how easy it is to make a mistake..

If we actually had a picture of when utorrent is not obeying your limit -- then we would all be on the same page with the details.

edit: Well how will you come back and tell how alternative X and Y throttle your pipe how you say when utorrent or the other 3rd party tools you tried the last time you brought this topic up did not?? If you unsubscribe? ;)

I know what you mean, with the default settings it feels bloated indeed, but in less than 20 sec it looks like this:

uTorrent is currently, as we speak, uploading at 980 KB/s - I've set a hard limit of 32 KB/s -_- And do not say I have a setting wrong, I've been working on fixing this for months. It's a bug. I know uTorrent's settings inside and out.

Its not a bug if only you have this issue.

Make a VM with just your operating system installed and use uTorrent there and see if this issue exists. It shouldn't.

How are the newer versions bloated? There's nothing on it but a window showing your torrents and info. Not to mention it's less than 1 megabyte.

I've used every version over the years and I haven't seen any difference other than I think they perform better and better.

Unfortunately uTorrent is not like it used to be. It certainly appears to be more bloated and the pathetic attempts to you to install the Ask Toolbar are annoying. However, it really has not increased that much in size. It literally takes two or three minutes to have mine set the way I want it. Fairly minimal or else I would not use it and find an alternative:

wow, i actually thought you're speaking about Mb/s at least. UK doesn't stand out with good internet speeds, doesn't they?

I had to stop using utorrent since it one day decided it was not going to let me download anything, at all for no apparent reason, regardless of what ever combination of settings I used.

Installed qBittorent, left everything alone and torrents were working almost instantly, so I recommend that.
