Birds are part of the food chain, that's thier purpose. TO BE EATEN BY PREDATORS!

Do you want all lizards and fish dead that eat precious flies?

But by that logic, no birds, no predators, everything in nature is part of the circle of life

This is about non-native species invading a habitat and threatening native species. It's not a difficult concept. It's fine if the predators are native, but non-native species can very quickly destroy an ecosystem. And cats are particularly bad... I can't tell you how many times our cats have drug in live and dead snakes, birds, and lizards. I'd let it go as long as they weren't driving a native species to extinction... otherwise, keep them inside.

Here in Louisiana we are trying very hard to kill off the invading nutria and fire ants. The nutria chew up the roots of plants and trees in the swamps, kill cypress trees, and accelerate coastal erosion. You can get paid money by the state to kill them. But nobody complains because they aren't particularly cute.

No not you... there are dogs bred/trained to kill birds and only birds.

I had a dog named Ginger that loved to climb trees. She would do that when she had to get a flea bath. Also I've had dogs that were Houdini about any kinda enclosures.

Birds are stupid .... they need to smarten up or die...

where do you think the phrase "bird brain" came from???!!!!

You're calling the Crow dumb? The bird tha would outsmart any cat, and if threatened and they don't like your cat, they will not just attack it, they will gang up and attack it strategically with a whole flock, or murder as it where, and probably kill the cat.

Maybe we should read up on the important of biodiversity, and the fact that cats are an introduced species to NZ and do not provide the important bio environment role that the birds it's threatening do. So by allowing cats and letting the birds to, you're threatening the whole ecology and bio environment of NZ. Kinda like what happened when stupid humans removed wolfs from Yellowstone or whatever the faint US national park is. Took years to attempt to repair it by reintroducing wolfs, of course they're the wrong wolfs since the Yellowstone wolf is now extinct, somthey can never fully repair the damage done.

There are other animals you keep mice away, and I'm sure NZ has their own mice predators. Cats are not as effective mouse hunters as cat overs like to make out.

I don't have mice around my house out in nowhere, probably because there are two other predators around, foxes, and more important for the mice, another tiny to creature I don't know the fish name for, but it looks like a ferret, and they are most effective mice eradicators.

So true, Crows are very smart, one of the few animals that will use -tools- for a purpose, e.g: food that is out of reach.

Sadly, I believe mice are an invasive introduced species to NZ also, the reason those flightless birds exist there is because

there was little to no other threatening wildlife there so flying wasn't essential to survival.

But mice are something humans can take care of, no need of cats.

I'm actually a little surprised at how many people hate Cats. I really thought this would be a case where everyone said this guy was crazy and move on. But people are agreeing with him in this thread, and in majority it seems...

I think that Cats are the perfect animal.

- They can show compassion to people and sometimes even Dogs and other animals like Rabbits.

- The are amazingly agile, quick and resourceful.

- They can climb most anything, jump high, run fast.

- They have excellent muscle/skeletal structure that allows them to be efficient survivalists.

- Hell, every limb on them is a weapon.

- They are oddly difficult to kill.

They, to me, have won their place in the Animal Kingdom, and this is with a shaky history with Humans that goes on to this day. The poor creatures seem to be the problem when I don't believe they are, I think you'll find you have a far greater problem without them.

I don't even own a Cat, and my only pets are 3 Rabbits and 1 Alexandrine Parrot. Both species of which are apparently the Prey to these 'murderous' Cats.

You can hate Cats, fine, you will anyways. It seems irrational to me, but perhaps I'm missing something. But, they are here now, and none of you have the right to take that away. None of you have the right to take any animal away. To think you do is the epitome of ignorance.

I don't hate cats, and I don't necessarily agree with what the guy is proposing. I just don't deny what they do to native species.

I don't hate cats and what he's proposing is not about hating cats. it's about removing an alien animal from ecosystem it doesn't belong in and that it is destroying.

I don't hate rabbits either, but that doesn't mean that they belong in Australia and haven't been ruining the ecosystem since they where introduced years ago.

It's not about hate, they were brought in by humans and are killing off and driving to extinction native species, and removing the cat from that environment

will not drive the cat to extinction.

What you're basically saying though, is the cat, brought in by humans should be allowed to drive those local native species to extinction, simply because

you're unwilling to be the one that gets their hands dirty, not realizing by doing nothing, we're equally as responsible for them driving them into extinction

You can't just close your eyes to the issue and say, well the cat did it, so it's ok, because no, the cat didn't just do it, we did it too.

It may not be a nice and pretty solution with rainbows, but at least there will be those birds, however annoying the Kiwi is(they aren't the only flightless bird in NZ either).

    • Google pitches Spanner as one database for all AI agents with these new featues by Karthik Mudaliar Google Cloud is introducing new features within Spanner, its distributed database, as a place where enterprises should keep their data, using which AI agents could make smarter and better decisions. In a detailed blog post, Google highlighted quite a few features coming to Spanner, including relational data, graph relationships, vector search, key-value access, full-text search, and operational analytics together in one database architecture. Google says that today's systems aren't well-made for AI agents. There could be data that is present in one system, search indexes in another, embeddings in a vector database, and relationship data in a graph database. This fragmentation isn't great for AI agents to do their jobs because they don't have access to all of this data in one place. This is where Google is positioning Spanner as a solution. Spanner is already a globally distributed relational database with strong consistency, and Google wants its customers to see it as a broader data layer for AI applications. The company introduced something called Spanner Graph, along with integrated vector search, full-text search, a Cassandra-compatible key-value endpoint, and a columnar engine for analytical queries on operational data. Google also added that its ScaNN-powered vector search can support indexes with more than 10 billion vectors, while the columnar engine can make some analytical scans up to 200 times faster. All of this isn't just exclusive to the Google Cloud Platform, and there's support for multi-cloud as well. This comes via Spanner Omni, which Google says is a downloadable, containerized version of Spanner that can run on Kubernetes and in environments outside Google Cloud, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, and even on-premises infrastructure as well as edge deployments. Google says that customers who are interested in the full-featured edition should contact the company, and there's no word on commercial availability or separate pricing. Those interested can read the full blog by Google Cloud, which details these features individually.

    • They have lots of info on me, I have a facebook account and have done so for years, it was the thing to have then. My phone number is not on it. I don't have the Facebook app on my phone these days, just the messenger part, and only for a couple of people to contact me, most will text me via SMS or phone. I agree, Meta, like others, even without an account will know something about me. Just have to try and keep some things private Also, never saw the need for Whatsapp, people used to ask for me to join it, but as I said to them, I have SMS and a phone, use that, or email
