Dead Space 3 will have a bare-bones PC version

Recommended Posts

Can't be as bad as Dark Souls, that was one of the worst ports I've seen in a long time. It looked beyond hideous on a PC.

Shame though, I thought things were quite positive for this series with all the backing and nice movie that came with it. I enjoyed the first and the sequel wasn't horrible either. Is it really that hard to engineer a game for a PC?

To be fair, Dark Souls was made because fans petitioned for it. The developers stated that they have no experience with making a PC game but at least they tried. Also, there's a fan-made fix that increases the game's rendering resolution and removes the 30 FPS limit.

It really is a shame. I had high hopes for Dead Space 3. I was excited when I found out it was using Frostbite 2 and I enjoyed watching the animated movie.

HA! Even better, won't get it at all now.

I wonder what they will blame on it not selling well though?

[...]

They should blame it on the fact that it's a simple console port.

Still better with 60 frames per second/1080p on pc compared to 30 frames per second/720p upscaled..Not complaning even tho yes they could of made it not a console port but still better res/frames a a bit better detail..

It's certainly not worth paying $60 USD though. It should be at least $40 USD.

I actually didn't have any problems playing ds2 on the pc. I don't remember it crashing on me.

Neither did I. Was actually really looking forward to DS3 and how the story evolves. Just seems like the series is in a tailspin in terms of what direction it wants to go.

Might pick up Far Cry 3 now.

I've never really been a fan of the franchise, but wow. I wonder if (when) they'll blame piracy if there's a large backlash.

...

Why is it so difficult to make a proper port? How hard is it to make high rez textures and compress them for the consoles?

...

The funny thing is, they do that anyway. They're not even going to bother including higher resolution variants, they're just using the low res copies they made for consoles.

That's an epic fail on their part, then. It comes down to pure lazyness and greed. Thank for that information. :)

No surprises here, no PC DLC either, I'm sure.

Well, there's this:

PRE-ORDER EXCLUSIVES: Pre-order the PC Download version now and get the original DEAD SPACE (available at launch), a host of in-game bonus items, including the Witness Suit, First Contact Suit, Evangelizer Weapon and Negotiator Weapon. More details below.

http://store.origin.com/store/ea/en_US/pd/productID.251508000

Hate the way things are going with games. Micro-transactions are OK for DLC but in-game items are just stupid.

I'll be waiting until this game goes on sale for $10 on Origin.

It's a shame though... Dead Space is one of my top all time favourite game series (I had no issue with DS1 or 2 on my PC).

And this is why getting out the new consoles will help the pc side also. When the next gen Xbox games are finally on dx11.1 then straight ports to the pc won't have the same outcome.

That's true, but 5 years after the new consoles we will probably be in the same boat. PC gaming is still good, but it follows the consoles now. The golden age of PC gaming appears to be over (or asleep).

bull****. I was really wanted to see DS3! but a console quality graphic is not what i paid for. i paid 10x the price of a current console, to truly play at max quality at high res.

And your PC can still do 10x the things a console can. People seem to feel entitled to things that actually they aren't. It will still look great and probably be fun. And you still get good resolutions.

Graphics come 3rd to 4th to me in what matters in a game. 1st is gameplay, 2nd is controls, and 3rd depending on the game is story. Doesn't matter how "pretty" the game is, because if it lacks those 3, I wont be playing it long. If I want just pretty with no substance, I'll stare at my GF , jk jk no one tell her I said that :p

TOO LATE !!! she knows now that her beauty has been objectified.

Anyways, while i do agree to some extent that a game should be good based off its "gameplay"

The visuals DEFINITELY play a big role in making the game a more immersive experience.

Think for example if the latest Need for Speed looked just as it did when the original NFS was released

and considering how much money is invested on hardware by hardcore/dedicated gamers

(myself included if i may add) :shifty: just Imagine the PC gaming community backlash & wave of negative

reviews by which the game would be plagued with.

And this is directly platform dependent, like on my 3ds, i buy games because i enjoy the gameplay,

but on my PC, I pay premium to enjoy better visuals, I EXPECT better visuals.

For as good as the gameplay was on DS1, i'm almost certain the game wouldnt've been as succesful

as it was, if the graphics would've looked like the original Doom, or even castle wolfenstein 3d

And I'm sure DS3 will look better than DS2. But apparently if it isn't dx11 and super-HD, people go bat**** crazy. The graphics are still amazing looking.

Yeah, no doubt about that, but when the bar is being set very VERY high with current

as well as upcoming DX11.1 releases, (FC3 and Bioshock)

pc gamers become spoiled :)

More like the bar is being set back to where it used to be.

It's not "being spoiled" to expect a PC port to actually target PCs, DX10/11 at this point should be standard (DX10 was released nearly 6 years ago), high res textures are a given (My 2 year old graphics card has more memory than the 360 and PS3 combined, etc.)

I agree I wouldn't describe taking advantage of technology to give a better experience as being spoiled, i'd describe it as something game makers should to. Frostbite 2 is a powerful game engine, why undersell it's capabilities.

You all missed the context in which i was implying the "spoiled" part .... :/

May help to read my previous "longer" post Located Here :)

    • Threads scales past half a billion users, brings deeper community and feed controls by Fiza Ali Meta has announced Threads crossing a major milestone of 500 million monthly active users. And, at the heart of this growth sits something simple: communities. From books to basketball, parenting to music, Threads says its rise has been powered by people clustering around shared interests and, in turn, giving the platform its identity. In response, the platform is expanding its Communities feature beyond beta and introducing a set of new tools designed to make participation easier and more engaging. A redesigned Communities Hub will now appear in the main navigation menu, allowing users to jump between groups without leaving their feed. Each community will also receive a distinct Community Icon, giving them clearer visual identity and making them easier to recognise across the platform. Then there’s Community Progress, which is a kind of live gauge showing how close a topic is to becoming a full-fledged community, alongside guidance on how users can contribute to its development. In addition, Meta is also expanding its Community Champions programme, recognising more users who actively contribute to community engagement. And then things go more local; Local Communities is already available in 100 countries, including North America, South America, Asia, and Europe but are now rolling out with native-language tags starting in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. The platform is also expanding Live Chats to more communities in the coming weeks, adding features such as co-hosting and the ability to quote moments directly into users’ feeds. Beyond communities, Meta is tightening the loop between users and their feeds. Earlier this year came "Dear Algo," a feature that lets people tell Threads what they want more or less of. Now it’s being paired with a new tool, "Your Algo." It allows people to adjust how frequently certain topics appear, with options lasting one, three, or seven days. Meta says these preferences remain private and can be managed alongside “Dear Algo” in a unified settings hub. The rollout begins in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Finally, the company says these changes are part of an ongoing effort to refine Threads based on user feedback and that further updates will continue as the platform evolves.
    • You pay just $100 per TB with this rare 4TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD deal by Sayan Sen SSDs and GPUs are incredibly hard to get nowadays due to high pricing. Discounts are quite rare which is why we report on them as soon as we spot a good deal. For example AMD's new 9070 GRE was finally up for sale at a very good price of just $500 thanks to a special coupon. Sadly that deal is gone but if you happen to be looking for a 4TB NVMe SSD and can spend around $400 there is a really good offer on sale that you should not miss out on as TeamGroup's 4TB G50 model is on sale for that that price which means you are only paying $100 per TB, a very good deal in the current market (purchase link under the specs table down below). The TeamGroup T-FORCE G50 NVMe SSD is a PCIe Gen4 drive and as such it promises to deliver sequential read speeds of up to 5,000 MB/s, helping accelerate game loading, file transfers, and everyday computing tasks. Since this is a 4TB drive you can use it for a gaming library to take advantage of things like DirectStorage. The SSD features an InnoGrit controller and SLC caching technology to support consistent performance. An ultra-thin, patented graphene heatsink is included to aid in heat dissipation. Get it at the link below: Team Group T-FORCE G50 4TB Internal SSD (TM8FFE004T0C129): $449.99 + $50 off w/ promo code SSF69668, limited offer => $39.99 (Sold and Shipped by Newegg US) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified. • I agree. I also think Phil stayed too long. They should definitely fire whoever thought all a console platform needed was Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout to survive. Asha and crew are still saying they need more Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. They simply don't get it.
