Is it Google Image Search new look?

Recommended Posts

Still getting the "old" layout. Most likely a slow roll out like most of their site updates.

Personally I prefer the current layout, the new one in the image above looks like it's taking up a lot of space unnecessarily.

Well I am getting some kind of new layout in Google Image Search, is it only me or they changed sometime back and I got it now?

Any body can guide?

i also have the new image search, i like it , its smooth :-)

I preferred it when they had the black left sidebar with all the options, the way they have it now is a PITA to choose something like "Results from the last 12 months"

I know its only 2 or 3 clicks but the layout is much more awkward imo

Same with Google's geneal search. You now have to click "More" or "Search tools", which is silly when I'm using a monitor with a 1680x1050 resolution. Lots of wasted space.

Yep exactly, lets hope they change all of their search tools along with the image one

So much wasted space :(

I thought that when i saw the image too, but I just tried it out: http://www.google.com.pk/search?num=10&hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1535&bih=818&q=test&oq=test&gs_l=img.12..0l10.1274.1648.0.2202.4.4.0.0.0.0.125.405.3j1.4.0...0.0...1ac.1.C39-_bzJpEo&qscrl=1#imgrc=hhHGtZOwyyoZPM%3A%3BBWOfdLbqbxFC7M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.indraneelghosh.com%252Fimg%252Fsport%252Fsport_318_test-201.gif%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.indraneelghosh.com%252Fsports%252Fsport_science%252F28%3B1646%3B828

Its actually pretty awesome! you get to see the large previews without changing page, if once you see it larger its not what you want. just scroll down and click another image and you get to see it bigger too

its a huge improvement IMO

its making better use of the space and you don't need to go back/forward all the time

But why waste so much space for a larger preview with nothing on the majority of the screen? Why not do it like Bing, which shows you the preview on mouse over, with even some minor options?

I see your point, thats quite nice. I've never used anything but Google

I'm starting to get annoyed with how web pages have to do so much now days. That was what made Google so good, it's simplicity, and they are quickly losing that. I don't want a picture to pop out and show a preview when I mouse over (Bing), I don't want the page to split open to show a preview when click it (New Google), I just want the list of damn pictures, and when I click on one, open it. Oh well though, what are you gonna do! Just wait for the latest fad of pop outs and sliding web pages blows over and we go for minimalistic again.

    • This is listed as a preview in WU for me. I usually don't grab them as previews; what's your opinion on it so far?
