Browser to Allow Downloads Like a PC

Recommended Posts

Hi

A friend tried to send me a large file (too big for email) through a downloading site but the default browser simply gave up before I was able to actually download the file and Chrome downloads only a tiny amount, therefore invalidating the file, despite me ticking the "request desktop site" box.

I ended up giving my Google Drive password, which wasn't ideal.

Will another browser work or is it just the fact phones simply will never learnt to work like a desktop PC in this area?

Thanks

what?..........use something like dropbox and have your friend just post the link to the file and it will download just fine. The other option is to use one of the many nuderous on line storage sites like yousendit.com and just send the link in the same manner as before.

How big is the file as it sounds like it is timing out?

Strange as I downloaded a 420meg PDF the other day directly to my Nexus 7 using Chrome

I've also noticed that some bigger files around the 300MB size and up time out while downloading; even though it's at a steady download rate. It only seems to do so on certain filelocker sites though however.

Now I think of it, it's only happened on Chrome in on ICS. I can't say it's done it on Chrome in 4.2.1.

Hmm, I might have to do more testing.

Seems to happen more with sites like rapid share and such.

I'd question the sites before the phone. Those sites are typically questionable at best. I've downloaded a number of different large files, and of different file types on my phones before with no issue. Try downloading a large file from Microsoft's servers to see if it's the phone or the download site.

Also, what kind of phone? It's possible it could be something to do with the specific software on the phone, but I'd doubt it for the most part.

    • Ridiculous claim that the labor cost difference of $6000 annually would increase cost per phone by $200. The employees produce 3 phones per month or what?
