So your phone is rooted? You need a file manager to browse the contents of your phone. ES File Explorer is a good program to use. Then I believe your installed APK should be located in system/app

Well, if you can use rooted programs like ES File Explorer, Titanium Backup....then you are rooted.

you don't have to be rooted to pull a apk... I pulled the untappd and the viggle apk off my sons galaxy s3 to use on my fire.. pretty sure I just used file expert or one of the file explorer apps, and then just a backup of the app that was installed and the apk was then in a backup folder on the sd card.

I just then copied that file up using dropbox and got the file that way.

Can double check actual app when I get home - but his phone is not rooted in anyway that is for sure.

if you could tell me what you used that would be awesome

I know with some file explorers such as "Root Explorer" you can view system files, but without being rooted you can not alter them

Copying them, maybe like Budman says as it is not actually altering them, I am rooted though so can not test

so just grabbed sons phone - its called es file explorer, version on his phone is 1.6.2.2, it has a app manager listing all the apps on the phone. If you just hold click on a app you get options - one of the options is backup. It places the apk in /sdcard/backup/apps -- you can then do whatever you want with that file. I upload them to his dropbox, and then can pull them from there..

His phone is clearly not rooted or jailbroke in any fashion what so ever.

I use ES File Explorer, been my favourite file explorer for a long time, I remembered having to be rooted to dig down further than /sdcard though, must be remembering wrongly if your sons can do it

cheers for the tip :) got the apk i needed

Problem comes if you are trying to backup in JB as it has the private function now that doesn't allow the usual method of backing up to an APK. It also stores the files in a different location so you can't just rip them either. Bit of a pain really.

    • I'm still rocking iOS 25.x on my primary phone cuz iOS 26 still has usability quirks (mostly aesthetic and thus its UX) which I don't wanna deal with -- and I've been piloting them with all of these updates on my backup phone, so I'm well aware of its "improvements" since iOS 26 was first released (compared to version 26.5.x).
