(CNN) -- Iceland is working on banning Internet pornography, calling explicit online images a threat to children.

'"There is a strong consensus building in Iceland," Halla Gunnarsdottir, an adviser to the nation's Interior Minister, told England's Daily Mail. "We have so many experts, from educationalists to the police and those who work with children behind this, that this has become much broader than party politics.

"At the moment, we are looking at the best technical ways to achieve this. But surely if we can send a man to the moon, we must be able to tackle porn on the Internet."

Such a step is somewhat surprising among Western nations that, for the most part, champion free-speech rights. But the move wouldn't be unprecedented in the island nation.

Iceland has had laws banning the printing and distribution of pornography for years, but those laws haven't been updated to include the Web. And two years ago, the nation's parliament banned strip clubs, saying they violate the rights of the women who work in them.

Iceland would become the first Western democracy to try and block pornography online.

iceland lol, well i guess the EVE online event in rekyjavik will be boring if they banned strip clubs 2 years ago :p. Stupid though, they violate womens rights who wrok in them but surely if the women were bothered they wouldnt work there. stupid. Blocking internet porn... when theres a will theres a way

When will they realize that without the porn there would be no internet today as we know it. Besides the best way to keep kids away from porn is to be real parents and pay attention to what your kids are doing.

but that parents are lazy they want other (such as teacher, or government workers) to do the parenting instead.

A Zen master once said, "The best way to control a cow is to give it a very large field." I fail to see how banning something has ever been a smart thing to do.

When did Iceland send a man to the moon?

I'm so tired of hearing it's for the children I could scream.

And it was the same People back in the Late 1980's I can remember that called for a ban on all Porn.

This was when sites were talking about having a xxx. or a .xxx ending for all porn. on websites with adult things.

Instead they refused to back that initiative.

Which would have been so easy to block most of it had they have done that with simple site blocking. (firewalls, or even Internet service providers.)

Back then most adult sites would not have minded having the (dot)XXX endings but now it is too far gone.

The other question is -- What would people actually consider what is porn... to some even some Artwork is considered pornography.

To some the showing of a breast is natural but to others it is Porn.

The problem is the internet is free for anyone to post images up -- pornographic or not.

Who is going to control it- I mean sure they have filter companies that filter most of it out, but really is only current as long as it is updated.

Now to your comment... I agree... with you... It is for the Children but some of it like others say... is up to the parents.

I mean children behaviorally do not know they are nude until someone tells them they are and that it is bad.

This is where parental guidance should kick in...

I remember a friend and their home-schooled children when they went to college they really didn't know how to cope and were shocked with people and what they called "unruly behavior". Which was drinking and wet t-shirt contests stuff most people know about, but apparently they were never told.

    • I'm still rocking iOS 25.x on my primary phone cuz iOS 26 still has usability quirks (mostly aesthetic and thus its UX) which I don't wanna deal with -- and I've been piloting them with all of these updates on my backup phone, so I'm well aware of its "improvements" since iOS 26 was first released (compared to version 26.5.x).
