I'm not sure if I'm missing a crucial step, or I'm not looking in the right spot, but are there no decent retina lockscreens available for iPad?

If they should work on the ipad, they are not showing on the full screen.

I haven't owned an iDevice for a while, and this is my first iPad. Appreciate any help.

The wallpapers for the iPad with retina display are mostly 2048 x 2048, so that they can accommodate for device orientation. (The wallpaper isn't fixed, it'll also switch from portrait mode to landscape or vice versa.) As the image is a square, it won't fill up the entire screen until you actually set it as your wallpaper.

I'm not interested in the background however. I mean Winterboard or Dreamboard themes for the lock screen.

So Neowin obviously isn't really big on Jailbreak modifications.

So basically you want a retina Dreamboard/Winterboard theme?

It's not just this forum, the fact is that there isn't really an iPad Jailbreak community let alone one devoted to Dreamboard themes! If you're interested you can make you own!

A nice theme (Lockscreen and main) is 'Laguna HD 2 for iPhone 5' - this also works on the iPad.
You can get it for repetitively low price of nothing from the hackmyiphone repo. (Actually they have heaps of themes there, if that doesn't appeal to you maybe others will?)

Hope that helps or gets you started :)

This is pretty much true. Especially for the "retina" iPad. iOS 5 was jailbreakable on the iPad 3, however iOS 6 brought Siri to iPad 3 and that was a pretty big deal for most folks (probably much bigger than any jailbreak tweak). So in reality there has only been a mere month for developers to make anything for the retina iPad.
