In all honesty even though I am not a fan of the overall interface of windows 8 it uses less system resources to do the same things and several features have had major overhauls that improve them greatly. Once i get used to it i am sure i will be able to do everything just as well it will just take some time. It was just never meant to be used on a non tablet device.

Which one is the best. I used both windows. No doubt about it that windows 8 has many amazing features than windows 7 but my experience and other windows user says that windows 8 work slow and windows 7 works very fast. Whats your opinion?

Literally no one argues that Windows 8 is the slower of the two.

They added a few hundred good features and took away the start menu, which you prefer is up to you.

If you already have an SSD, there really isn't much speed difference. The AMAZING start up time of Windows 8 after a shutdown, isn't really all that amazing. It's just some hibernation trickery. You never fully shut down in the first place. To Actually restart the computer you have to restart.

If you fall into the majority, Windows 8 will frustrate.

These forums are very divided on this. I gave up arguing it mostly, but I love 8 and will never even consider downgrading. It's also far better on lower spec machines if that matters to ye.

Windows 8 paired with start8, I'll never go back to 7. just too many other improvements to let the start screen bother me

ps. i may have start8 installed but i still tend to use some modern apps from time to time :)

People who complain about W8 mostly are complaining on the 'missing' start menu.

Other than that W8 is a nice update, and if you're living in desktop land most of the time, there's some updates there too.

YMMV....

Windows with start8 or similar to get permanent desktop mode is very good.

But if we're talking about windows 8 without any mods and using full screen apps (compared to normal programs) on a 30" monitor, my god its such a waste of space.

Windows 8 for me kills multitasking.

An SSD is just one small cog in the machinery of performance. It's a very visible cog because it reduces loading times, however it doesn't actually improve any actual performance, just old speeds.

And for the last 10 years you're not supposed to turn off your computer, and there more than some hibernation trickery to it.

Ad in my experience if you fall in the majority it takes you a couple of mi utes o adapt to win 8 and use it far more efficient than win7. Most I show and sell it to love themes start screen and have no problems with it or the hot corners. Anything from dumb users to highly intelligent ones. The ony ones who have a problem are self proclaimed geeks who refuse to adapt, and their friends and family who have bent told by their tech friend that its an unusable system and they'll never be able to use it.

ill go with xp... since it has hardware accelration for GDI.. so the website scrolling is much faster in xp than 7 or 8 which both feel slow unless you are using internet explorer. browsing is a major task so overall feel of the OS much snappier if browsing/scrolling is seemless and real fast.

gdi acceleration was replaced by Direct2D. I dont use other browsers, but Im certain they have switched to direct2D already. you're probably talking back in vista days when that was a problem.

Biggest.

Fail.

Ever.

I'll go with Windows 8, but I still love 7.

not that there is any dearth of people promoting stupidity and hate on neowin but you are the winner of the day sir!

windows vista/7/8 are all downgrades. if you want to stay where you are and not go backwards then stick to xp until microsoft releases windows 10 or 11 which hopefully gets their act together.

as you can see the people who dissed vista are now saying wait a minute maybe vista wasnt as bad as we thought(1)... why do they think like that? because vista/7/8 is the same thing. (2) except windows 8 has further added insult to injury by going for metro ui in desktop area. same guys who said we dont need start menu etc. have industry research say we do indeed need it. (3)

staying in denial is not a good idea.

well if you really can't get arround windows - which is sad ennough - then i'd say go 4 win7. it looks okay and works well, most security problems are known and patched.

win 8 is just P L A I N U G L Y i'd even call it totally overhyped and afaik by today it costs lots of money.

in the longer term i would try to switch to something more usefull. linux for example or also give mac os a try.

Which is exactly what you're doing by sticking with that dinosaur of an operating system. Do you drive a car to work, or do you believe that's a downgrade compared to the horse-drawn carriage?

Bartender, I'll have another shot, please.

Actually, make that two, thanks.

Pros:

  • Improved file explorer UI with more options
  • Improved file transfer dialog with speed graph
  • Proper multimonitor taskbar and wallpaper support
  • Built in .iso mounting and burning
  • Better task manager with more info
  • OSD volume controls/display
  • Built in Hyper-V (previously only avalible in server releases) Please note: however it is a bit stripped down

Cons: (these aren't too bad)

  • Networking control accessed via the notifications panel is wierd
  • Shutdown options are hidden in the charms bar

Scrolling concerns:

  • You can fix this with browser extensions such as Yet Another Smooth Scrolling or Chromium Wheel.

    • iPhone 18 Pro drop-test video and photos leak on the dark web following a data breach by Hamid Ganji iPhone 17 Pro - Image via Apple Apple is seemingly facing one of the biggest data breaches in its history, and just a few months before the official debut of the iPhone 18 Pro series, photos, a drop-test video, a supplier list, and key phone components have reportedly been leaked by hackers. Last week, we reported that Tata Electronics, an Apple supplier and iPhone producer in India, was hit by a data breach. As a result, it was reported that more than 200,000 trade secrets and confidential documents belonging to Apple and Tesla were stolen by the ransomware group World Leaks. According to Reuters, the group has now leaked supplier lists, component details, and photos of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models on the dark web. One of the materials leaked by the hackers is a drop-test video of the iPhone 18 Pro, which is due to launch this September. The phone is shown in a gray color and has the same familiar design we saw on last year's iPhone 17 Pro series. The device also appears to be quite durable, though it seems to be thicker than last year's model. One possible explanation is that Apple may be using a larger battery in the iPhone 18 Pro series. Moreover, Reuters says it has seen at least six documents mapping many components in the iPhone 18 Pro models to their respective suppliers, including details on chips on the main circuit board and on battery and camera components. The documents reportedly detail hundreds of parts that will be used in the iPhone 18 Pro models. A person familiar with the matter told the outlet that Apple classifies this data as sensitive and “is concerned about the documents being shared on the dark web as they relate to unreleased models.” Apple is reportedly investigating the issue but has yet to issue an official statement.
    • You do you, I've just said that it first appeared in "home" version before it will be available in "work" one. I use Edge only because it still supports MV2 uBO extension even on Android - I'll switch when they stop.
    • I imagine that was a review or something? My reviews mostly contain a lot of images and galleries, but these are all webp too, but yeah it all adds up on the page load. Would help if you were more helpful with your critique instead of bitching and moaning like a Karen 😂 Because then we might be able to fix it for you.
    • If Valve refused to let them make the case, I wonder if they've already partnered with someone else to do it? The fact that they didn't seek permission/licence before diving straight in is incredible though
