Need assistance on choosing a 27' Monitor

Hi guys,

Need some assistance here, got some extra funds for my birthday and I wanted to pickup a 27' monitor.

I'm not a heavy gamer, however I will play the occasional game from time to time. The monitor will mostly be used for work purposes, remote desktop, word processing, and watching videos.

I was at a local computer store last week and I came across these 2 models:

I used to be a big LG fan , but I've steered away from there and have been buying Samsung TVs and monitors. However that ASUS looks damn ass sweet. I know ASUS pretty much docks at everything they make....but monitors?? Anyhow some help here would be much appreciated

Love my asus monitors... That one you are looking at is very sweet looking. 5ms IPS will look so good you will love it. The samsung wont' look nearly as good and is a completely different display technology. good reason for The price difference.

with 5ms your games will look fine I personally see lag at around 8ms.

totally voting Asus, if you have the cash spend it. If you are like me, you spend 8-14 hours looking at a freaking screen for work/school so it's worth it to spend some money on this.

I'd go with the ASUS, the price difference isn't worth the decrease in quality you're looking at with the Samsung.

Nothing at all, since this DELL is not even a Touch Screen.... Would be the only "feature" that would help Win8 users.

Go 1440P, not 1080P.

The ASUS is a stunning looking monitor and has the addition of built-in speakers but both are only 1080p at 27-inches and neither have a built-in webcam. I agree with .fahim. Surely you need at least 1440p on a 27-incher, otherwise you can just get 23/24-inch.

Was gonna say, 1080p is low for a 27inch, you'll appreciate the 1440p when you see it, I had i on an iMac 27inch and loved it

1080 on a screen that big is a waste. go 1440 or 1600 as for brand, Dell uses both Samsung and LG screens, not sure who provides ASUS but it will likely be Samsung or LG, not many other companies can produce screens at those sizes and resolutions, even the "cheap" Korean screens are just rebadged LGs

1440 is too expeeze!! I don't mind 1080p on a 27' , my current display is a 27' Samsung 1080 and it looks great.

If someone can find me a 1440 screen that costs 350 then I'll cancel my order!

Sorry Kid, 1080p is a low resolution for today standards nowadays everyone is going 1440p or 1600 much better screen resolution and more work space and more room on the screen.

I just purchased a 1440p display, an EQD Corp. Auria EQ276W. This is a 27" WQHD (2560?1440) IPS LED LCD display.

It cost about $400USD plus taxes from Micro Center. Here's the page for it on their web site: EQ276W 27" IPS LED Monitor

The first unit I picked up had two stuck pixels so I returned it. The store let me hook up the replacement to one of their bench test PCs and I verified it had no dead or stuck pixels. I would recommend doing this with any monitor purchase before leaving the store.

This was about $250 less than the next two cheapest WQHD monitors I could find, ASUS' PB278Q and Hewlett-Packard's ZR2740w.

Advantages: very bright IPS LED LCD display. inexpensive

Disadvantages: potential stuck pixels, concerns about the longevity of the manufacturer (I'd never heard of EQD Corp. before I started researching WQHD displays).

Neutral: monitor base is simple, physical control buttons require a lot of force, but once you set the monitor up you're not too likely to change these
