Gmail update lets you reply and archive straight from notifications

Recommended Posts

Google just pushed out a small update for the Android Gmail client, but it comes with a pretty handy feature. Users can now reply to emails straight from the notifications menu ? when you expand the notification, there's a small box that contains options to reply, archive, or delete, depending on how you set things up. Unfortunately, it looks like you can only have options for reply or archive, not both, but it's still a nice addition (albeit something that webOS offered many years ago). If you get a lot of email, this won't be super useful, however ? you can only use this feature if you have a single email in your notification drawer. Google's also included faster search results, both when offline and online, as well as the usual generic bug-fixes. The new Gmail update is available now in Google Play.

Pretty certain you've been able to reply via notification for a while now. Also assuming that this is Jelly Bean only, I updated Gmail last night and my notifications on Sony Stock ICS are still the same with no lower options.

I think previously you were only taken into the gmail app, where you could reply. Now the option is there to reply directly from the notification it's self bypassing the app. Pretty handy I have to say.

Yeah but I'm pretty sure I had seen this previously. Maybe I just have had visions of the future in my sleep.
