FileHippo.com Update Checker throws up an "Input string was not in a correct format" error when it starts up on my partner's Windows 7-based laptop.

Can anyone recommend some alternative software to FileHippo.com Update Checker?

SUMo works fairly well for me. Just make sure to download the lite version to avoid any crapware.

While patchmypc doesn't have the same huge catalog of SUMo it does have a great list of the most exploited 3rd party applications. All of which get downloaded AND installed with a singe click.
