How buggy is 8.1 for gaming and or desktop use driver compat?

Recommended Posts

Anyone notice any critical incompatibilities(drivers, critical apps(for gaming and for anything else in general),winpcap, video editing(ie critical windows modules used in the software))? Are any of the core components of 8.1 different from 8? What about sharing your performance perceptions? Is it just the new metro that breaks or is it desktop functionality as well? Also how buggy does it keep flying apart as you use it as some of the early pre 8 builds did? Also I saw something about reduced memory usage does this result in any increased gaming performance? Also 9369 was all I could get my hands on anyone have hands on a later release(x64)? Probably just gonna install this anyway on another brand new drive, but I'd rather not if its a waste of time to use as a main os. Saw a thread warning against this, but almost everyone I know was saying that about the win 8 pre-release and betas and I was able to use them all for better gaming performance given a thing here or there usually metro related would break, but to be honest I really dont ever use metro tho I am pro 8(extremely pro 8). I just havent taken the time to learn it.

If you don't run old games, its pretty much guaranteed that will work like in 7

no increase in game performance at all, some runs marginally faster or slower, nothing drastic except old games that will not run at all, i had bad experience with Empire Earth 1 in Windows 8, the game would start to lag terribly after few minutes of gameplay.

    • I made a new Cinematic/Trailer for the game, this will be the intro, still a work in progress!  I also updated the Steam page with a ton of new screenshots! 👀 https://store.steampowered.com/app/3925340/Incoherence_Dark_Rooms/

Microsoft confirmed June 23, 2026, that its Fairwater campus in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, is fully operational — and the engineering behind it makes the facility something fundamentally different from every data center that came before it. Where conventional cloud infrastructure racks up general-purpose servers and parcels out workloads to each one independently, Fairwater links hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GB200 Blackwell GPUs into a single, coherent cluster using a two-story building design, 800-gigabit-per-second Ethernet fabric, and a proprietary networking protocol co-developed with OpenAI and NVIDIA. The result, according to Microsoft, is the closest thing to a purpose-built AI supercomputer that any company has ever placed in commercial operation. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/319205/20260627/microsoft-opens-fairwater-wisconsin-ai-campus-runs-one-supercomputer-via-800g-ethernet.htm
