LONDON (AP) ? Seven men were convicted in London on Tuesday for sexually abusing underage girls, including one who was just 11, by plying them with alcohol and drugs before forcing them to commit sex acts.

The guilty verdict followed five months of testimony indicating the pedophile sex ring exploited girls between 2004 and 2012 in the Oxford area, some 60 miles (95 kilometers) northwest of London. Charges include rape, trafficking and child prostitution.

The case follows several other high-profile ones of sex rings that took advantage of underage girls.

Chief prosecutor Baljit Ubhey said the girls were subjected to "truly appalling" abuse by a network of perpetrators.

"No one, let alone a child, should ever be exploited as these young victims were," she said. "The men who have been convicted have still failed to accept any responsibility for their crimes. They are nothing less than vicious sexual predators."

Prosecutors said seven of the men on trial were of Pakistani descent and two had family roots in North Africa. Other recent high profile cases, including one in Rochdale that involved a similar sex ring, have also involved Pakistani men convicted of abusing young white girls, in some cases sparking ethnic tensions and protests.

On Tuesday, Judge Peter Rook told the men that long prison sentences are "inevitable" because of the serious nature of the offenses.

This case was slightly different in that it involved many instances of child prostitution. The girls were taken to various parts of Britain and forced to have sex with men who paid the convicted men for access to the girls. But as in the Rochdale case, it appeared the police missed opportunities to stop the cycle of abuse.

Most of the victims ? whose names cannot be released for legal reasons ? gave evidence from behind a curtain at the five-month trial, describing forced encounters, physical abuse and intimidation.

Unfortunately we don't have the death penalty for crimes like this...

Even if we had death penalty pretty sure sex crimes wouldn't warrant it.

They should be castrated with hot knives and no anesthetic while the victims families watched on.

Another Muslim gang raping young girls. Surprise, surprise! We should really take more care handling visa applications from Islamic countries.

We already have our own problems with chavs and the like, so why import more problems? I agree with the above poster, ship them out of our country. Families included.

What's with the double standard? If a white Christian kills someone, people say "Killer murders girl", but if it's an Asian from the Indian-subcontinent, it automatically means that he's Muslim and this is somehow relevant?

No wonder there's so much hate around. Ignorant people spouting so much rubbish. Not only does Islam condemn this heinous act committed by these perverts, I would bet you my house that these people can't even recite the Qur'an let alone know anything about Islam.

And I don't know why people waste their time proposing stupid suggestions such as "ship them out". You people can't even get rid of one person (read: Abu Qatada), you expect to deport everyone else?

There have been quite a few reports of gangs of Asians grooming young girls, especially in Lancashire where I live like the news article says.

Pointing out their race and the fact that they are in a gang is just warning the general public to watch out?

Getting sick of this PC bullsh*t where you cant describe people by their race anymore in fear of upsetting someone.

For all of you targeting religion, why don't you hear about anything like this happen in Arab countries. Because like someone suggested, the punishment for these crimes under Sharia Law is death penalty. And not just hang till death, they would have been dragged across the streets in public, stoned, spat on and humiliated and then flogged until their skin separated from their flesh. You may think its savage but it works. Next time someone even thinks of doing it, they know what would happen if they got caught. The result is there are hardly any crimes. Women can walk alone on the streets after midnight and no would would dare touch them. Imagine doing that in the back alleys of New York after dark. You can leave a pile of gold bricks in the middle of the road and you wouldn't find a single piece missing after you come back. And here they can't even release the names of the convicts for 'legal reasons'.

I agree they were Pakistanis but where does it say they were Muslims? They drank and did drugs and raped minors. What does the Quran say about those things? Sounds like they didn't believe they would ever have to account for their deeds. I would say they were atheists but they are even worse because they were most likely born Muslims but instead of their Faith being strengthened after witnessing the state of hedonism in a foreign society, they themselves indulged in such sinful practices. So please, don't insult all Muslims by equating us with these sick excuse for humans. Because if you start comparing deeds, people were still doing much worse things before the advent of Islam.

Lot's of women return back home from late night shifts every night in New York without getting harassed.

It is a thread regarding a story about a Muslim gang who were going around raping young girls. Something that is becoming too regular, especially from a minority group. These men think women from other religions and races are inferior to themselves. Link. I am referring to the members of this gang and other Muslim gangs, not all Muslim men.

If it was a thread about a bunch of white Christians then I would be calling for life imprisonment or deportation if they are foreign. I'd prefer the death penalty but we don't have it. As I said, we have our own problems. Paedophile priests? The BBC cover-up? But sadly, most of them are our own home-grown problems and we can't deport them if they are British.

There are no double standards.

A Muslim gang? Would you like to substantiate that?

A Pakistani gang, yes, but if you're going to mislead people, I hope you have evidence to back up your accusations.

Race? Is it important to you that they are Pakistani? Or allegedly Muslim?

^ So I guess all the "honour killings" that go on in Pakistan, don't really happen?

'Honour killings' are precisely about that, honour. They don't have any roots in Islam. And also, he did mention 'Arab countries'. Last I checked, Pakistan wasn't an Arab country and nor did it implement Sharia law.

Lot's of women return back home from late night shifts every night in New York without getting harassed.

And lots do get harrassed also. Over 200,000 sexual assaults happen every year in the US, and the majority of them don't even get reported due to the victim not having the courage to stand up against the attacker.

There is no honour in murdering innocent people for no more than talking to an unrelated male. And yes, that IS a wholly Islamic thing. As for Sharia Law... It might not be the law on the books in Pakistan, but in much of the northern area, it's the law that gets practiced; especially in the areas controlled by the Taliban, who are both Muslim and Arabic.

Ever heard of the statement little knowledge is worse than none? These honor killings, which are condemned by the state, sadly do happen in rural Pakistan and has less to do with religion than prejudice. These people consider themselves separate from rest of the country, have their own government of sorts where a feudal lord acts as judge, jury and executioner as well as religious cleric but is mostly just an ignorant fool on a power trip who's still following his centuries old ideals and has taken half statements from the Quran out of context and twisted it for his own benefit. For them their land and honor comes before everything, even their women. Similar incidents have surfaced in rural India too because people there, although lower caste Hindus, have exactly the same mindset.

And oh the irony of you saying we treat our women as possessions. I won't say anything, just watch one of your pageants on youtube and read some of the comments.

Women in western countries are given freedom to think for themselves, women in Islam are told by the quran that the husband's opinion is there opinion and if they don't do what they're told they can be whipped or beaten

Dude, are you on weed or something? You just said black is the same as white.

I'd behead you if I could for being such an ignorant ****. Women are not allowed to walk outside during the DAY even, without a male companion (brother/husband/dad), what is this fairy tale you live in? Every day there's a bombing in Pakistan, that alone is worse than these rapists, how dare you speak such lies and compare to New York? Your mind can't even comprehend the notion of FREEDOM, yet you run your mouth about stuff, manipulating whoever believes you and doesn't know the Holy Qu'Ran.

Stop being brainwashed if you're young... and if you're old, then please stay away from typing delusional propaganda.

Personally, I don't watch those pageants as I think they're dumb; but the key point here is that those women CHOOSE to take part in them. They have that right because they're as free as men are in our society. We don't treat them as possessions at all.

For those that apologise for these men's behaviour I suggest you have a good read here http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2325215/Oxford-child-sex-abuse-ring-Will-blame.html and see if you still think the same after.

To those that think that not one group "of people" is to blame for this the answer is yes; only one group is to blame for it. Please don't be blind to what is happening. You need to educate people to iradicate issues that are in society. Be it homophobia or xenophobia. Those who see the world in rose tinted specticals need to take them off for a day or two.

And to those blaming religion - are these men examples of "good Muslims" you say? Read on "Aged 16, she fell pregnant by one of her abusers, and after her son was born the ruthless gang threatened to behead the boy unless she recruited younger girls into the same cycle of abuse." and "?He said if I didn?t do what I was told he knew someone who would shoot me."

What makes it more worrying and something the press never seem to "say" due to PC issues is that it is getting more common in the UK and probably elsewhere - Muslim men show no respect for white young girls - is the placard that is being raised in the press by men like these - even the UK foreign secretary said that Asian - read Pakistani men were in groups grooming young girls for sex - and he was lambasted by PC groups for saying that. No one ever seems to want to hear this stuff - same with the abuse of young boys by the catholic church - Christ what's up with these people? Church was meant to be a safe place to go if you felt vulnerable ... from what is happening it is the last place you want to go ...

As a father it makes me sad to think that my daughter will grow up in a world where men like this exist - it pleases me however to note that I have a very unforgiving nature and I am proud my boys are as unforgiving as myself when it comes to things like this.

Death to the unworthy I say.

Makes me sad that in this day and age I have to put in words what I see and what I see I don't like. Just my 10p worth on a very emotive subject.

No; it was the nearest "linkable to" article that had the quotes I was looking for relating to the OP story. As for a reference there is a very good paper written by an ex home secatary that highlights the issue. Along with local MPs from and around your neck of the woods which enforce the point I was making rather than validate it.

News for news sake does not appeal. I was after the statements from court - the DM had those ;/ ..then again so did the Sun - and I would be pushing my luck quoting that!

Almost all honour killings are done over here by Muslims as well. The whole "it's the culture" thing doesn't wash with me. The quran might not explicitly order honour killings but what it does do is create a mindset, a mindset in which any kind of depravity is acceptable if you think you're carrying out God's will. And let's face it in general Muslims are the most fanatical religious followers on the balance of things.

Hell the very guy protesting against our "intolerance" in this thread admitted his friends hit people just for using the word "extremist". Couldn't think of a more perfect advertisement for Islamic values than that.

Maybe it's not a bad idea for western countries to include sharia law for their Muslim citizens.

They steal, we chop of their hand, they rape, we stone them,..... or whatever this sharia law states (i'm not sure about the details)

These people just mock our justice system, maybe they will respect their own a bit more.
