PGHammer
More to follow... And considering that Kinect is integrated and included, this is news? It's not like XB360 (for which Kinect is an option) or PS3 (for which Move is an even pricier option). Quibble, quibble, quibble. The Wii NEEDS the motion controller to play games/navigate OS. The Xbox uses a standard controller which can also navigate the OS. If you have no interest in Kinect you've got a large camera to put somewhere. Jose_49, Charisma, The Laughing Man and 1 other 4 Share
Tomoko
Was the Kinect really that popular? People used them for a while until the novelty wore off and now they are all gathering dust. LaP, Raa, Jose_49 and 1 other 4 Share

MS might think different then you, they want the OS to NEED Kinect, they want it to be the primary interaction method Aergan 1 Share
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted May 21, 2013 Author Subscriber² Share Posted May 21, 2013 MS might think different then you, they want the OS to NEED Kinect, they want it to be the primary interaction method But if they don't MAKE it need Kinect, and the controller works, then that is not the same as the Wii and again I say people will have to put a camera somewhere if they do not want to use Kinect. There's a difference between wanting to need something, and actually needing it. On the Wii you have to use the sensor bar, on the Xbox One MS WANTS you to use Kinect, and if you don't WANT to, tough, it's staying plugged in because ? You know all "People"? I for one don't use Kinect daily, but it's a well used device when I've got friends round, and also at Christmas. Kinect Sports Party Mode is always a good laugh. Wii Sensor Bar does not have a camera, microphone, and the ability to track and count the people in the room, or see facial expressions. Wii Sensor Bar = 4 Infraid LED's, you can even use four candles, but don't try this, kid burned there house this way.

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted May 21, 2013 Author Subscriber² Share Posted May 21, 2013 What happens if your Kinect breaks btw? If you are tucking it "away" somewhere, aka, hanging it off the back of your TV/Unit. That isn't exactly the safest.

Kinect Sports Party Mode is always a good laugh. Of course not, just the cool ones. :p As you just said, you just use it on occasion. It's more of a novelty right now because there really aren't that many games or good uses for it. Maybe the new XBox will change that but I don't think anything will ever replace a standard controller.
neoadorable
If Kinect is needed to work but not a mandatory controller, won't be comfortable with that, but can live with it. If its a mandatory controller, then that's a deal breaker, will not be getting this console
Raa
Can't see this as being a 'good thing'. I read that the X1 can be powered on by a voice command, so in theory that means it's powered on and listening all the time. I'll let you pull out the tin foil hats on that one... neoadorable
Very correct. If the sensor array is always on, better not put it in front of your bed. Tho this isn't new, your tablet and smartphone are already this.

George P Global Moderator Posted May 22, 2013 Global Moderator Share Posted May 22, 2013 The mics are on, just waiting for the command, not the full camera unit itself from what I understand.
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted May 22, 2013 Subscriber² Share Posted May 22, 2013 My only concern about this is the room size required to make use of it. With the 'old' Kinect you need a massive empty space with no clutter. I don't have that luxury. :p
