didn't the circled part used to stretch across the entire bottom since the sidebar didn't reach that far?

I'm pretty sure it was always like that. Otherwise, there would be an issue if you collapse enough forums for the sidebar to reach the user list.

 

EDIT: I edited the image to respect the privacy of those that signed in anonymously (as in, don't show up in the user list for non-staff).

hmm, i don't remember it looks so scrunched though, and i always have my window non-maximized like in my screenshot


edit: yep, just checked using way back machine :) and i was right, it did used to stretch all the way
