Subscriber² Posted July 19, 2013 Subscriber² Share Posted July 19, 2013 Original Schindler's list being auctioned on eBay, bidding starts at $3 millionOne of four known original copies of Schindler's list is currently being auctioned off on eBay. The document contains the names of hundreds of Jews who were employed by Oskar Schindler during the Holocaust ? effectively saving them from Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime. Steven Spielberg popularized Schindler's story with his 1993 film Schindler's List. The 14-page document was typed up by Itzhak Stern, Schindler's accountant and "right hand man," on onion skin paper and is dated April 18th, 1945. Collectors Gary Zimet and Eric Gazin are selling the historic list, currently in the hands of an unidentified collector who obtained it from Stern's family.Securing the timeless document won't come cheap, however; bidding starts at a lofty $3 million dollars. (The winning bidder will need to pay out a $10,000 deposit immediately with the entire final balance due within seven days.) "Don't miss your chance to own a piece of history that has inspired many on the difference one person can make in the face of great danger," reads the eBay auction page. This version of the list is the first to ever be sold on the open market ? the other three are in safekeeping at museums. As for why Zimet and Gazin chose eBay rather than a traditional auction house for the rare collectible, it's a matter of exposure. "We decided to sell the list on eBay because it has over 100 million worldwide members, and this is a global story," Gazin told The New York Post.Source: The Verge

compl3x
Another important piece of history going to the highest bidder. There is plenty of wealthy Jews worldwide, they could purchase it and donate it to a holocaust museum.

True enough, there must be plenty of museums which would like to have one in there collection.
streetw0lf
How do you know that once it is sold it won't be donated or at least loaned to a museum? It' been done with many items before.
