patseguin Global Moderator Posted August 6, 2013 Author Global Moderator Share Posted August 6, 2013 Well, I have my Chromecast connected to the front hdmi3 on my Pioneer VSX53 and it appears that Chromecast doesn't output digital surround, only stereo. Anyone managed to get digital surround on it? My other components switch to truehd, digital surround, whatever. Sine Chromecast only doors stereo I can't see myself using it much aside from some YouTube hopping.

I have my Chromecast hooked up to my TV via HDMI. My TV is hooked up to my Onkyo 5.1 receiver via optical out, so it should be able to get surround sound, because I can with my TV on OTA channels. Yeah AppleTV does full digital surround so CC will only be a novelty for streaming some netflix ocassionaly. Unless maybe they somehow enable it in a firmware update... AJerman
Can it replace my HDMI wire from laptop to TV? I use TV as a monitor...? Not yet. It would have to mirror the entire screen.

tsupersonic
My surround sound works fine with Netflix. What is your setup out of curiosity? I just can't get surround sound of the damn thing! Mine is: Chromecast hooked into TV's HDMI 1 TV output to receiver via Toslink (optical cable).

Wait, what? is this a new version? Since when did it cast the whole screen, last I saw casting a whole tab was experimental. I like the hidden settings noted on that page though! Been streaming Netflix off my tablet and have not opened Chrome in a few days to check.

techbeck
like the hidden settings noted on that page though! I think enabling the hidden settings will probably give you the full screen mode. I have not tried it yet but it makes sense.

AJerman
Did anyone else forget they had a Chromecast plugged into the back of their TV? I like the thing, but I really just don't use it much. Sometimes to play a little music or toss a YouTube video up on the screen, but with a full PC plugged into all my TVs, I don't really have as much of a need. I still need to get one for my parents though. So, has the CM app progressed anymore? Anyone used it? I have a second phone that I just repaired the screen on and loaded CM10.2. It would make a good media device for the coffee table+Chromecast.
techbeck
Did anyone else forget they had a Chromecast plugged into the back of their TV? I use mine all the time, mainly for netflix tho. That is until they make it so you can play local content effectively.
+Biscuits Brown MVC Posted September 12, 2013 MVC Share Posted September 12, 2013 After using mine once, it managed to fall off the network due to insufficient signal. I'v tried every type of solution I could find online, reset back to factory, configured in another room blah blah... Firmware is current. Every other wireless device in my house works just fine. I've even held both my tablet and phone right next to the Chromecast plugged into the bedroom TV and while they both get a strong signal, the Chromecast just will not connect. I'm almost to the point of boxing it up and giving it away as a grab bag Christmas gift at this point.

Josh_LosAltosHills
so now that I'm on Android for the next year (on a nexus 5 until new Nokias come out) what does chromecast do for me that my xbox doesnt. from what I understand it does stuff like netflix etc, but I have that stuff on my xbox/surface. maybe I'm just a little confused as to why this is so fantastic.
