DocM
http://freep.com/features/article?a=2013310290076&f=1236 The eyes don't lie: Men really do look at women's bodies more than their faces, according to a new study that used eye-tracking technology to prove what many women have long observed. But it's not just men who do it -- the study found that women look at other women's bodies, too. "We live in a culture in which we constantly see women objectified in interactions on television and in the media. When you turn your own lens on everyday, ordinary women, we focus on those parts, too," says lead author and social psychologist Sarah Gervais of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. "Until now, we didn't have evidence people were actually doing that to women's bodies," she says. "We have women's self-reports, but this is some of the first work to document that people actually engage in this." The participants - 29 women and 36 men - were outfitted with the eye-tracking system, which measures in milliseconds how long the eyes are fixed on certain spots. Their gazes reacted to photographs of the same 10 women, each with three different digitally manipulated body shapes - curvaceous, much less curvaceous and in-between. (Only women's bodies were viewed by study participants.) Both sexes fixed their gaze more on women's chests and waists and less on faces. Those bodies with larger breasts, narrower waists and bigger hips often prompted longer looks. >
Skin
Aside from the women who like women.. women size up their competition and men look for the conquest. This has been known since the dawn of time. Someone got a pretty penny in wasted grant money... and we wonder why so many major diseases go un-cured (yeah, aside from the conspiracy theories). McKay
If they can tell me why, I'm always curious to find the scientific reasons behind why we do these things, but it's such a pointless endevre when they tell us crap we already knew. "Men look at Woman's bodies". Thanks captain obvious.

Torolol
so how male are subconsciously 'programmed' to look at them, longer ?
DocM
Reproductive selection. Males have one primary imperative - pass on their genes via the best mates. To do that they are programmed by evolution to constantly evaluate the contenders and formulate seduction strategies on the fly. Females also evaluate the competition but aren't burdened by formulating seduction strategies. As to seduction, in most cases their role is more filtration than pursuit. Boo Berry
And women don't look at men's bodies? Yep, they do. It isn't limited to gender, obviously.
compl3x
I know sometimes some studies seem to prove the obvious, but that is kind of the point: you have to prove things, you can't just assume things to be true from intuition or subjective experience. A lot of things that have seemed intuitively true have also been proven false by scientific inquiry. It's able to work both ways.
Torolol
so about those gays, did they gay because of genetics? i.e they don't "evaluate women" for mating purposes anymore? or they became gay because of psychological happenings? i.e their male bodies subconsciously still yearning for female, for procreating purposes?
