The 12-year-old gamer is being hailed as a hero for saving his family from a fire in their Danville, Kentucky home last week.

Wood was pulling a marathon post-Christmas play session when he began to smell foul-smelling smoke sometime around 3:30 am on Thursday morning,

"I was on this kind of important mission and I smelled something really funky - and I thought it was me - but then it wasn't," he told Kentucky

At least he didn't just drop a medpack near the others and take off.

^ Sadly, no. I hear reports that there wasn't enough space in his inventory.

Good job it wasn't Final Fantasy or everyone would have died whilst searching for a save point.

What an outstanding family, can't be bothered to spend what, a few dollars on a life-saving device especially when they have kids...

Great work and fast thinking by the kid, maybe his parents won't hassle him for playing games ever again. As for the lack of smoke alarms, is it not an enforced thing to have them in the States?

^ Article says there were no working alarms.

They probably ignored the dying beeps, when the batteries wore out.

Video games drowned out the battery alarms.

Ah thanks for pointing that out, but to still not have any working alarms in the place seems so crazy, they must have changed all  the batteries at the same time, or maybe the kid needed a longer gaming session with his Xbox controller? :p
