Colin.B
So my old ass Compaq Presario F700 is simply not cutting it anymore and as such I am in the market for a new laptop. Unfortunately, unlike desktops, I can't build one myself! There's so many inexpensive ones out there and so many mixed reviews. Here's what I'm looking for: Budget: 500 USD or less. Wants: Blue tooth Windows Responsive, fast when it comes to web browsing, system navigation, light photo editing Light gaming. This won't be my desktop replacement. Want to be able to play The Walking Dead, maybe some Dragon Age, WoW. Settings don't matter as much with those games. Not to me anyways. Want but can live without: Touchscreen 8GB Ram Decent built in speakers Basically I want something that is going to feel snappy and responsive when browsing the internet, doing research, some Office work, some Photoshop and light gaming. Thanks!
snaphat (Myles Landwehr) Member Posted January 2, 2014 Member Share Posted January 2, 2014 You'll be hard pressed to find any budget laptop with 8GB of RAM at less than $500 whatsoever me thinks. A better bet is to look for 4GB laptops then buy 4GB of RAM separately as an upgrade if you want to do that. Similar with the touchscreen, it will be difficult to find much anything below $500 unless it is poorly spec'd. All of the optionals are probably out because of the budget basically. If you want your system responsive you should probably add an SSD to the mix, but again, that's costly.
Colin.B
Yeah, I came across a Asus Vivo Book S200 that was pretty inexpensive but not sure how snappy it is. So I fear you may be right on the touchscreen being there while the specs are not point. I can definitely live without one though. I'll gladly take better specs over a touch screen. I'm guessing the S200 has some sort of AMD APU in it, but I can't find it on amazon.

Has a Core i3-3217U cpu, integrated Intel GMA video, 4GB ram. It's an 11.6 inch screen which is definitely smaller than I'm used to but really, beggars can't be choosers heh. Colin.B
I've narrowed the search down to 2 different laptops. First is the Dell 11 3000. It has a Celeron CPU and only 2GB ram but it uses the Intel HD 4400 which may be a noticeable improvement for me with games. It costs 348 dollars on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i3137-3751sLV-11-6-Inch-Touchscreen/dp/B00FEE7D1Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1388697827&sr=8-1&keywords=dell+11+3000 The second option is a Lenovo IdeaPad S400 - 4GB ram, i3 processor, Intel HD 4000 but it's almost 100 dollars more. http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-IdeaPad-14-0-Inch-Touchscreen-Laptop/dp/B00DZIY88E/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1388696502&sr=1-1&keywords=lenovo+ideapad Of course the Lenovo has a 14 inch screen versus the 11 inch on the Dell. Decisions, decisions!
