WildWayz
Hi guys Last week, I rooted my Nexus 5 using a new program which automates the process. You install it on Windows and it runs through set things to root the device. Now I am trying to re-find it but can't figure out the name or where I found it! Anyone know? Thanks, James
Nick H. Supervisor Posted January 14, 2014 Supervisor Share Posted January 14, 2014 Are you talking about Odin? EDIT: A page with a download link for Odin.
WildWayz
Thanks Nick - it isn't Odin - think that is for the Samsung mobiles... This one is similar.
+Frank B. Subscriber² Posted January 14, 2014 Subscriber² Share Posted January 14, 2014 Are you talking about Odin? EDIT: A page with a download link for Odin. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Odin a tool for rooting Samsung devices only? The Nexus 5 is a LG device.. WildWayz 1 Share
Mandosis
A Nexus is not very hard to root. As long as you have it unlocked with a custom bootloader just download and install chainfires auto root package (http://download.chainfire.eu/363/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-hammerhead-hammerhead-nexus5.zip) and flash that and you will be rooted. If you want to use the program I would look on http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5 . Also I think Odin is only for Samsung devices and its just a flashing tool. Nick H. Supervisor Posted January 14, 2014 Supervisor Share Posted January 14, 2014 Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Odin a tool for rooting Samsung devices only?Oh really? Huh, I didn't know that... Having a quick check, maybe this or this could help? What are you trying to do, anyway? You've already rooted your device. WildWayz
It's more a case of... the program easily roots the device (one click, does it all) - but it also has an unroot option too, to restore it back to stock. Basically, my banking app doesn't work on rooted devices (Stupid Barclays)... alphamale
be sure and let us know if you are able to return to stock using the tool. some of the comments are worrisome. WildWayz 1 Share
WildWayz
So far, so good. It is now un-rooted and re-locked. Just performing a factory reset to ensure everything is cleared back to what it was. :)
riahc3
Hello, Are you talking about Odin?Im confused; Since when does Odin root Samsung devices? Does Samsung allow this now? EDIT: A page with a download link for Odin.Is Kies now Odin? Also, no official link from Samsung?
Nick H. Supervisor Posted January 14, 2014 Supervisor Share Posted January 14, 2014 Im confused; Since when does Odin root Samsung devices? Does Samsung allow this now?Having done some reading on this, Odin was developed by Samsung as an alternative to Kies. I can't seem to find anything that says that it is solely for Samsung devices though, quite a few pages refer to it as "the most used program to root your phone" without specifying Samsung-only devices. AJerman
Odin is a flash tool. It is only Samsung, and it doesn't root. It can, however, be used to flash a rooted ROM. Kies is a user tool for backing up, syncing, and updating your phone. It's not so much a flash tool in that Odin will allow you to flash specific partitions with specific code. Kies was more a pre-OTA type updater and sync app.
