"How Microsoft beat Apple to the Mac App Store by four years - and then dumped it"

Yes actually, Edison was...

The problem is the attitude people have over Apple "getting things right", they act as if Apple invented the Universe and where would we be without them?

Apple fanboys need to get over themselves and their stupid company, just like all other fanboys need to stop themselves too.

No they don't. Apple doesn't go around saying they invented things like you say they do.

I hope you realize how many people on this forum claimed the same thing, yet NONE of them have EVER provided proof.

Can you read? "The problem is the attitude people have over Apple "getting things right", they act as if Apple invented the Universe and where would we be without them?"

Where did I say Apple go around saying it? Use your eyes man...

Ever provided proof? Want a video of Steve Jobs saying how Apple has invented something? Want another video of Steve Jobs saying that copying is perfectly okay, want another video of Steve Jobs saying how it's wrong other people are copying him? Apple in fact have said they invented something, that they were the first and guess what, in most cases, they weren't.

Take your Apple tinted glasses off and be a free man for once.

Microsoft also had touchscreen phone and tablet technology before Apple did but just sucked at actually bringing them to market in the same way.

They brought them both to market just fine. It's just that a touch phone and tablet without a "touch" UI won't set the market on fire. It just didn't work. No marketing in the world could save them.

Microsoft had tablet skins (though not many touch tablets) that they just never had the vision to actually develop. They did not have the courage, maybe the technology, to produce the mocked up UIs in 2005. Even now MS' UI design isn't quite that bold. Not sure what happened. Anyway, they left the risk to Apple and it paid off for Apple. Now they're playing catch up, but still not really that bold and daring. At least not on the level of creativity and boldness imagining these concepts in 2004.

Yes.

"I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong, I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this." - Steve Jobs, the irony is strong with this one.

I'm too lazy to go looking for the Apple conference where they literally say this is brand new and never been done before and it's all Apple and yeeeeah, no. It's out there somewhere.

Those are beautiful concepts. It's a shame that they're only concepts. Windows "Longhorn" was full of innovative ideas.

All those great concepts and the one they went with, the most conservative and least exciting, as well as short-lived, the sidebar. lol.

I still think the Sidebar in Windows Vista doesn't get enough credit, especially when one considers the dynamic information delivered by modern mobile operating systems and applications.

I am sure that you know, but it was much more powerful during "Longhorn" development, as it was designed to consolidate system and application notifications into a single location, and offer users a consistent experience by allowing developers to use new APIs related to notifications. Also, since the Tiles (equivalent to Vista's Gadgets) were being built on the .NET Framework and WPF, they would scale well (when the product was complete, that is; released builds they do not offer resolution independence).

Below is a screenshot I have taken in a virtual machine.

It wasn't terrible by any means. Just conservative. Gadgets weren't that bad either. Only no one made many good or cool ones. With things like Konfabulator and all the bold designers opting for the Mac platform, they just kind of died out. The Gadget gallery looked like a bunch of high school projects with not eye for graphic design. The Windows platform is much better now in that respect but still not really big on aesthetics as far a UI and icons go.

What?!?! That's all they do, in their marketing campaigns. Does anyone remember when they said that the MMS addition to the iphone was revolutionary and magical? Even if we had MMS tens of years before?? Dude, Apple's business is ENTIRELY based on false marketing and lies. You need a wake-up call.

Proof?

This is Apple press release about the release of iPhone 3G with MMS. Want to show me words like magical or revolutionary?

well before the iphone  MMSing   was very basic  in design and application for it be it on a  clam phone or a windows phone  it worked different and the UIs  were not as great or looked as good.  so the iphone ushered in a much more elegant  MMSing app . But   Apple did not say  it was revolutionary or that they invented  MMS

Tesla?

Tesla refined AC voltage, which is a basis of the light bulb, but has nothing to do with the light bulb itself.

My point was that the people who get things right are the ones that get the glory.  When somebody else fails 100 times at something, they don't really deserve much credit when somebody else comes along and figures out what they couldn't.

There are very very few "inventors" out there that truly invented something first.  Even Tesla wasn't the first in basically everything he's known for.  He was just smart enough to fill in the gaps.

I agree. Was just a guess.  I looked in to this more and it appears there were several working on the light bulb.  Edison's version was just more efficient.

Why people need to prostrate themselves in front of a corporation and give themselves over to them I will never know, want to be part of a cult? Go right ahead. :D

The thing is that you're making assumptions over something that isn't there.  Please show us where people are claiming Apple invented the universe... I'm serious about that.   There have been nobody in this thread or any other thread recently that make anything even remotely close to that claim.

Imagining something and then over-dramatizing it will never help you make a case.

Yeah pretty much.  Then he started war with Tesla over AC vs DC and became a d-bag when he would kill animals on stage using AC to make Tesla look bad.  Jobs might be a huge as*hole, but Edison is definitely king as*hole.

Sorry but  Microsoft  market store or what ever that  has now been found  was not the first Since agian it did not really exist because  no one barely if at all knew about it. .  that is the point  . i had been running windows  vista since the longhorn days   from the late 3000 builds up till vista with SP1 and i did  not ever see it in ther   so this means it did not really exsist   least not on my ultimate edition skus  or anything .  while it may have been ther guess what  i highly doubt  it was used if found .

Apple created  the first  App store that defined what an App store  was and is to this day and not  only that  they already had  the purchase sing  Model and usabilty model in place when they created the itunes music store. they set a standard that everyone now tries to Follow  Googles  play store works  so simular  to the  App store and itunes store because  Apple set the Tone  .

Nobody knew my house existed. That does not mean it did not exist.  That is now how this works.

I knew it was there, and I have built over 10,000 machines (due to what I have been doing for the past 30 years).  By your logic, it did exist.

Was it popular or well known, no it was not.  Is it what apple has, no it was not.  But that does not mean it did not exist.  There is a rather large difference.

Apple refined and got lock in to their app store via the Iphone.  It filled a need for Apple and the consumer.  But because Apple got it popular, does not mean that they did it fist.

I had discovered this article a while back, but while searching for Windows information I stumbled upon it again. The author of the article describes how Microsoft had an application store prior to the one released by Apple, which I believe provides another example of how Microsoft is ahead of its competition. I had wondered if I should post it on Neowin due to its age (it's from 2011), but after reading Dot Matrix's new status update about the lack of an application store in Windows Vista (what are the odds of that timing?) I have decided to share.

Ahead of its competition? You joke right?

Funny enough, if you do a Google search for "Apple invented the universe" the only things that pop up are people claiming that the iSheep think that way.

I don't think it's meant literally, I think it's more, a lot of people are extremists, and need to calm their ####. But the simple fact that there's 142 results indicates it needs to happen on both sides. (or all three if you consider the mobile OS world to be a sexy love triangle of technology)

Did you read any of those results?  That exact quote is only said from people bashing on Apple.

Btw, what's up with the link address in the address bar?  There's something "extra" in there that's very strange.

ehehe you caught that did you? if you don't start a fresh search, it leaves your previous searches in there. Which just so happened to be a two pronged search for both "apple invented the universe" and "Go #### yourself microsoft".  I also searched for "Android is a pile of ####" "die google die" "cheeseburger walruses" and "My Little Pony", but unfortunately the last two didn't pop up anything relating to this conversation.

And that's exactly what I was pointing out. The Android fanatics blow things out of proportion just as much as Apple fanatics do.
