GM recalls 3.16 million more cars for ignition defect

DETROIT - General Motors (GM) is recalling 3.16 million more cars in the U.S. because of ignition switch problems. The company says it will change or replace the keys on the cars from the 2000 to 2014 model years.

GM said the key could move out of the "run" position if there was a "jarring" event (such as hitting a pothole) and the keychain was carrying extra weight. That can shut off the engines and disable power steering.

GM first learned of defect in 1999, probe finds
GM says it is aware of eight crashes and six injuries due to this ignition issue. The recall is part of a GM review of ignition switches after the company recalled 2.6 million older small cars earlier this year for a similar problem.

GM also is recalling 166,000 other cars for a different series of problems, bringing Monday's recall to more than 3.3 million cars. This brings the total ignition switch recalls in 2014 to 7,542,673 vehicles and the the total number recalls for all vehicles in 2014 to 17,728,268.

I wonder why the Grand Prix wasn't recalled for those same years... all the other W-Body cars were recalled... probably because Pontiac isn't around anymore.

I was just thinking that yesterday, I have a 2008 Grand Prix and it has the same exact ignition system the 2008 Buick Lacrosse has... you know what the fix for this is? just give you a new key ugh... all the new key is, instead of the Slot where the key ring connects at they have a circle centered in it for the key ring so the weight is always at center..... talk about a cheap fix

but even though Pontiac doesn't exist on paper anymore, it is still GM and GM is still responsible for them, heck and the actual maker of the Grand Prix still exist, which is Holden Motors, which still exists... the GP is just a rebadged Holden...
