Apple stopping development of Aperture and iPhoto for OS X

 

Back at WWDC, Apple showed off a preview of a new Photos app for OS X ? and now it seems that new app will replace Apple's longstanding iPhoto and Aperture software for photo editing on the desktop. First reported by The Loop, we've confirmed that Apple will replace both iPhoto and its professional-grade Aperture software with the new Photos App when it launches. This isn't a huge surprise, as Aperture hasn't seen any major updates in quite some time and is beginning to feel somewhat out-of-date, but it's still unexpected to see the company complete cede the professional photo software space to competitors like Adobe's Lightroom.
