Dot Matrix
Depends on what the safe mode key is. Mine's F8.

Gotenks98
Go thru the motions as if you are going to restart it, but hold down shift when you click restart. That will allow you to get to the blue menu where you can change the start up settings and such. Since Windows 8 creation its not humanly possible to hit f8 fast enough when the system starts. The easiest way is the shift + restart method. Either way in your case I recommend you do chkdsk to see if there is some file system errors making the updates not take. Buzz99
Hold down shift key while right click on the power icon on the log in screen and choose restart. It will boot in diagnostics mode so you can choose what you want to do. edit: a little too slow at typing, second post for same solution  goretsky 1 Share
Joker007
No, you don't need to be in safe mode when using sys restore. Try opening pc settings. You should try booting into advanced startup mode. If the PC boots up.
articuno1au
Get the PC on, at the login screen (or anywhere in Windows that you can get to the restart option) hold down shift and click restart. Keep holding it down until the message in the middle of the screen says "Please Wait". This will boot you into the advanced start up screen. From here you can repair or reformat the Windows install. You can boot into safe mode or you can restore from a prior system recovery point. All of these options are under the advanced tile when you are in the advanced boot mode. xrobwx71 1 Share
