Automatic Theme on News page too slow

9 posts in this topic

I've noticed at night, the theme will switch from the normal bright and blue theme to the darkside theme when on 'Auto'. I like this, I think it is awesome! My biggest issue with it however is that it takes a considerable amount of time for it to do this, I'd say about 3 seconds or so after the page viewable. This is rather disorienting to my eyes to go from a very bright screen to a very dark one like that at night.

Would love to see this fixed whenever someone has the chance. :) If it helps, I run Windows 8.1 Update 1 64-bit with IE11.

Fix is coming, we just have other things ahead on the to-do list.

In regards to the Auto setting again, what time are the triggers for night-mode? It is currently 8:19PM for me (Central time) and I still have the default theme.

Looks like it switches over at 10PM (at least it did for me). Any chance this can have a TODO added to make it configurable? I realize it wouldn't be top priority but would be nice.

Yeah I would like it to trigger earlier too, but I'll see what we can do.

Maybe it can use data from an online source for sunsets. Plenty of sources available, I'm sure one of them has a nice API/tool to use to pull the sunset dates for different places.

atm it is triggered by cookie, it will change to php but that requires backend coding (along with a hundred other things :P) it's on "the list" but not as important as a few other things right now.
