Google releases its souped-up bookmarks manager for Chrome... again

We've caught glimpses of Google's new image-rich bookmarks system for Chrome a couple of times in the past, and now it's back with a new name, but not much in the way of new features. The extension formerly known as Google Stars is now simply (and blandly) listed on the Chrome Web Store as "Bookmark Manager." It still grabs images from the page you starred to show in the manager tab, and it easily lets you choose the most appropriate folder for the website through the small window that pops up whenever you add a new bookmark to your list. This window also lets you sync the website you just starred with your Android bookmarks.

Other than the features mentioned above, the manager analyzes not just headlines but also its bookmarks' contents whenever you look for a particular term using the built-in search function. According to OMG! Chrome! the only new thing seems to be the Bookmarks Bar section on the left-hand-side menu, as well as a couple of other minor differences. Unlike last time, Google hasn't pulled down the extension yet, so this is looking more and more like an official release. If you don't want to take your chances, though, you can head over to the Chrome Web Store right now and download the feature to your browser.

Sooooo.. how does one uninstall this extension again? Doesn't show up in the list. Manually nuking the extension breaks Chrome's bookmarks completely, and the web store now perpetually says "This item is already being downloaded and added into Chrome."

Hm? It shows up in the list of extensions for me (Chrome 40 dev, Windows 7)

I suspect this is functionality which will sooner rather than later be part of Chrome itself though.

Not showing up for me under the baseline Chrome 38, Windows 7.. it's installed and working, just not listed as an extension. Will have to try switching to a beta/dev build again, see if that does it.

It's actually not bad, I like the functionality, but sorely needs a list view.. the tiles are super clunky if you got a lot of bookmarks to wade through.

Well, it remind me of Opera new Visual bookmark thing in Opera 25. I do read about this addon in morning from another blog but not posted. :-(

I like it. It has a nifty search capability so I can search within the bookmarks, which makes finding what I'm looking more of a breeze. It would be cool to have a list-view option as Max says above.

I do see it listed as removable on the extension manager in Chrome. Maybe they had a brief glitch in its installation process that has since been fixed?
