Settlement reached in Phillips vs Nintendo patent infringement suit

Tuesday, 2nd December 2014 20:58 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Back in May, Phillips filed a patent infringement suit against Nintendo over the console manufacturer?s use of motion control technology inherent in Wii U. Today, it was announced a settlement between the two companies had been reached.

The complaint from Phillips not only included Wii U but the Wii Remote controller, Wii and DS, and the firm was seeking an injunction which would bar further sales of Wii U until the matter was settled.

Phillips said the proceedings it initiated in Germany, the UK, France and the USA against Nintendo ended with the two companies agreeing to ?cross-license portions of each company?s patent portfolio?

?We are very pleased to have reached this agreement with Nintendo. It demonstrates that both companies recognize the importance of intellectual property rights,? said Brian Hinman, Phillips? chief IP officer. ?It also shows the value of our extensive IP portfolio and our commitment to protect our significant investments in research and development.?

As with most settlements pertaining to lawsuits, financial details were not disclosed.

Thanks, Game Informer.
