Facebook Locked account due to Facebook name

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

just go info that my Facebook Account got locked due to false Name. Is this some ongoing thing or is this something they just started.

Also they want a new name and a picture of an ID or something as proof that the new name is correct.

WTF?

Is this a new account you made?

I know this has been around for at least 6 months since it happened to me.

I just made a new account.

The reason, amongst other reasons, why I don't use Facebook. You'd think that Facebook would have learned from Google's experiment with 'real name' requirements but alas they haven't.

They always required real names, but in general it requires someone to report your name for them to notice or care, usually more than one unless it's offensive.

Why would they have learnt? They always required real names and have far more active users than google. And real names is kind of intrinsically to the service, it's not a web forum.

Well shame my groups will be unmoderated now :o Will have 40000 unhappy users.

And I am still locked

You can change your name and they will unlock. You're supposed to use pages as your "user" if you don't want your name visible.

Facebook is intended to be a social network where you communicate with family / friends you know in real life, who would know your name anyway (I would presume).

I think requiring people to use their real name from day one is one of the reasons it appealed to all generations and not just teenagers like myspace did.

It would be a lot less personal and more like another random web forum if people were calling themselves InsaneNutter or Mr Nom Nom

This isn't anything new, accounts do get blocked if your name is inappropriate or if it's found to be false (or pretending to be someone else) could be that someone reported it.

They do care and they do monitor it, i have a lot of dj/producer friends on my Facebook that would include their DJ names as their name or within their name and Facebook has contacted most of them and told them to use their real name.

I used to see a lot of 'Joe DJName' or 'Joe DJNAME Bloggs' .. not anymore they are really cracking down on it.

What I really freakin hate is they make such a big deal over a damn name and not crack down on some really bad and illegal groups!

Yep,

This has been going on for a long time. I used to have a Facebook account that I used solely for slamming s**t hole companies. I got locked out of it after a while, although I only used like 3 or 4 times, and they wanted me to give them my phone number to unlock the account. Yeah, like I'm giving Facebook my phone number!!

As one poster said previously and Steven P. seems to have agreed to by posting an image of an old lady saying that's nice honey, Facebook sux!

From what little I've ever seen of what people post on there, that's one of the dumbest sites, filled with some of the dumbest people, on the whole internet! It's enough to make you want to :x

I know a lot of accounts that defiantly are not real names so I guess its all down to luck

lol, what are you up to, i've seen girls with a thousand fake accounts, never caught.

they don't have the resources to monitor everyone even if they wanted.     Someone had to REPORT that your user name is incorrect.

I have seem a lot of people with names like Alexander Inconspicuous and Anna SimplyTheBest - and they are still going after many many years. No one reported them.

Didn't people use to make accounts for their pets? I don't see why those were allowed, but having an account with a fake name isn't.

It's not, and I don't see that a lot. People either use pages or dog book. And again unless someone(read multiple people) report you, they ignore you.
