What software for scanning?

Question

Hi! I have HP C4680 printer/scaner! When I was still on XP I'd simply use windows scaner, because it was perfect for my needs. But now I'm on W7 and default scaner sucks. The reason I dislike it, is when it scanes the file it prompts for how you want to name your scaned file. And if I name it, it doesn't name the file but it creates the folder with that name, but scanned image is simply named image.png. If I don't name it, it doesn't create folder but still names the file just image.png.

So I was wondering if anyone knows of any good software for scaning?

I just use the free Irfanview, http://www.irfanview.com/ for scanning! That way photo is already open in a editing program. You need the plugins for this also which are on that same page. No need to install printers bloated software.

No need for folders and you can name it what ever you want to and save it where ever also.

Under file, you just select the twain source, which is your scanner (only needs to be done once) and then select acquire batch scanning. Simple as pie!!

I have 2 HP AIO's that I use this on.

I don't do much of scanning, very infrequently for me, I typically just use the one built into Windows, if I'm planning on an edit too I'll use the Paint.NET to scan it instead. The wife does a lot more scanning than I do, she does slides/film/etc, she bought a copy of VueScan (all OS's), seems pretty decent if you need something a bit fancier. Also does OCR and the like, supports a ton of scanners without relying on TWAIN, etc.

I read up a little on that paint.net software. Never used to like it way back when as it just seemd to simple, which I usually really like, and stupid with those extra little windows that always seemed to be in the way. Still has those windows there but seems to be much more developed now. Might have to give it a try.

Still going to be hard to beat Irfanview though as nothing is in the way and it also has MANY editing tools in it that are very simple to use without much digging around to figure out how to do it.
