Ambroos
Buy a supercheap app on the Play Store using the card. Or add it to a PayPal account, I think they do a $0.01 verification transaction, but it usually takes a bit longer.
Psion7
The best thing to do is to contact your credit card company and let them know an unusually large purchase is going to happen. By default almost all credit cards will allow a purchase of say
watkinsx2
A small transaction followed by a large one is more likely to be flagged as fraud, however this is usually easily fixed by a quick call to the credit card company. You can use your credit card in Greggs if you want to test it, I've done it before when I left my debit card at home. There are no extra charges to you, it counts as a normal purchase. MikeChipshop Member Posted April 13, 2015 Member Share Posted April 13, 2015 Grab something in one of the chain food stores. Make it something delicious though. Never had a minimum amount on any cards i've had, and have always been able to pay up to the credit limit for anything as well, so you should be good to go. Jub
I use my credit card for everything in the UK. From chocolate bars at Waitrose to PS4 games and new appliances. It works like any other card. (And for the record, I don't live in debt, I just pay off the full sum each month to help build credit rating. Swedes live a hard life in the UK. ) MikeChipshop 1 Share
philcruicks
Like wise I use my CC for pretty much everything in the UK (build credit rating and rewards etc..) never hit a minimum amount, even put 15p on it once Though generally I don't bother unless it's more than a few quid (just use my debit card). Just go buy a chocolate bar for tesco or something, as Psion7 said, you can always phone out CC company and let them know a large transaction will be going through, I've never had a transaction stopped until the other week when I bought something in the US and they put a hold on it, they rang me, confirmed a few recent transactions and then took the hold off. I'd maybe also advise the people your buying the car from that it might happen, they should be fine with it.

Psion7
That's not what I meant. I want to do a small test purchase to make sure the card it set up fine, the PIN is fine etc. If that works, I'm sure the
Elliot B.
If all you want to do is check the PIN, etc. is fine just pop to a hole-in-the-wall and do a balance enquiry Just remember the anti-fraud protection might kick in if you suddenly try and put

Psion7
This happened to me once while i was ordering a pizza, i'm a creature of habit, it was the same pizza, on the same day, to the same address as the last few years. No idea why it kicked in. Ha that is annoying. I found out the hard way when I bought a computer. Now I have never just bought a computer like that before but it was a good deal so I just went for it. I was so embarressed at the time but the sales guy was like "oh man that happens all the time, what company is your card with?" and he had all the direct numbers to hand so it was sorted in about 5 minutes thankfully

I went to the starbucks near work pretty much every day, yet 2 or 3 times a week I'd have to call them to find out why it was declined. Needless to say I didn't have the card long!
