Ironman273
I have a nephew that's 8 years old and really into Minecraft. He's been playing it on the PC but my sister is considering getting an Xbox 360 for it. I'm familiar with parental controls on the Xbox but is this a game that's OK for someone that age to play? Is there an online element to Minecraft on the Xbox? Is a non-connected version viable or even worth it? Thanks for any insight.
Tjarboe
Minecraft is a great game for all ages. I play it a lot on my PC and my son has been playing it a lot on his xbox 360/Xbox One. No issues
Skiver Veteran Posted June 2, 2015 Veteran Share Posted June 2, 2015 Does he play online on the PC? I imagine he doesn't and the 360 will only allow online play with a Gold Subscription so just don't pay for it if that's a concern. Plenty people play Minecraft solo and enjoy it so I don't think it should be a concern, can I ask though, if he has it on PC why spend all that money on an Xbox just to give him a slightly more cut down version of the game? From what I understand about the game on Xbox 360, the world size is limited and there are certain "blocks" or entities that are not available on Xbox that are on the most up to date versions on PC

He plays it on the PC when he's home but he visits his grandmother a lot so getting a used 360 is lot cheaper than another PC. Also, the limited (nonexistant?) online experience makes them feel like it's a safer option.

Got you, sounds like a good way of achieving it - another alternative could be a tablet with the pocket version? That way he can play it wherever (holidays etc) should they need it. We're a little Minecraft mad in my house, I've got it on my laptop and the XB1 and my daughter has it on her tablet so I can completely relate to you and your nephew on this
