6/18 windows 10 updates

Recommended Posts

I installed Windows 10 on my brand new custom gaming computer built 6/3/15 and after todays updates the app screen now looks like win 8 and my ethernet connection isn't seeing the router anymore. I've restarted a couple of times and even deleted the updates and restarted a couple more times but nothing. Device mgr says network card is working properly and tried different ports on my router going to other working computers in my house, still nothing.  Even ran a drop ethernet cable from the router, still nothing. Nothing new has been installed for about a week now.

Lol.

Yeah Windows 10 will be ready in a mere few weeks. Yikes.

Anyway back to you sorry man why don't you install Windows 8.1 on it and wait until the 1st 2 updates by next summer when it is ready? MS laid off it's QA team so no freezes on changes and it is showing. Bloodstone will be out next fall by Thanksgiving and hopefully will include the 1st round of fixes. Next summer the one after that will come out.

You have until the end of July 2016 for the free upgrade so what's the rush? Neowin's parent company stardock has a nice bundle with its startmenu replacement and modernMix which lets you run apps in a desktop Window for $15. I bought it for the workstation I am typing on.

Good luck.

MS laid off its QA team? Source or flamebait? I'm guessing the latter.

@OP

What version of 10? What are your machine specs?

First problem is a setting, second is probably a driver issue.

Also, there were no updates released today. What did you actually install?

It is usually better to give members as much data as you can so they can assist.

Note: If you have build 10130...it has a known network bug.....mine has it as well...minor glitch. From cold start up, no net access via wifi....just reboot and all is well.....works for me anyway....glitch not there all the time, ..........and welcome........ :D

Oh, come on - someone needs to mention the n00bishness of using a pre-release OS as your primary.... someone ?     anyone ??

Screw it,

I'll bite

OMG what a noob thing to do, using a  preview as a primary

Wait, a new member?

I would but we have a developer at work that has it as his daily driver OS on his workstation.

What can ya do?

So no qa. Just some developers reading discussions on the feedback app. Notice the 1st release was the most stable a year ago?

Let's hope performance is rewarded by fixing bugs too and not just adding stuff?

I am a pessimist just because I have seen very good and bad releases based on solidness 6 months prior to release. This is Windows ME right now

Ok, lets read this carefully:

"Testing will no longer be done by a totally dedicated team, but will be rolled into the developer team. Nadella believes this will reduce bureaucracy and let Microsoft deliver products faster.

You apparently know little of development. It makes sense for the development team to also do the testing. It cuts down red tape in getting results back from the testing team. It doesn't mean there is no longer any QA and you know it. Surely you are not naive enough to think developers cannot do QA? A lot of times there are separate testers because it is a lower wage spent doing it. If MS has no problem paying their developers to test, so be it.

Windows 10 TP is NOT Windows ME. What a terrible comparison.

How is it noobish to use a pre-release OS as your primary system? I do it all the time and it is everything but noobish.

It's fun to fix too.

If you think its fun to fix - you're not a n00b ;)

There still is a QA team - it was just greatly reduced and their focus changed. In OSG (Operating Systems Group), the team was cut in half. Instead of testing everything, they now do scenario and end-to-end testing while much of more unit test stuff is done by the developers.
