Fairly standard thing for a lot of tech support numbers, they even said you didn't have to give them the info.

Yeah this is pretty standard billbro. I still rate MS customer service from the easy and lightning quick replacement of my SP2 back in the day.

All your data and details are belong to them if you want support

How is that weird exactly?  I'm sorry, do you doubt that it's really someone from MIcrosoft?  Are you concerned about having your identity stolen from the tech support person?  There are a lot of weird things in this world, bro.  But those requests from Microsoft support are not among them.  Here's an idea - if you don't like giving them that information, don't contact them to help you.

It's not only pretty normal stuff, but very thorough when it comes to support.
