eddman
I just upgraded from a Core 2 Duo E6550 to a Quad Q9550. Unfortunately, it didn't come with a cooler. The old cooler is unable to cool the new Quad at high loads and it goes above 85 degrees C easily. Could you please suggest a suitable cooler? I'm not really planning on OCing, so I don't want anything expensive; just something that can do the job at the stock 2.83 GHz clock rate and keep the temperature below 80, and be quiet too. Circaflex
Anything from here, will do the job http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100008000%20600035363%20600110698%20600035368%20600338010&IsNodeId=1 Your CPU socket is LGA 775, so you just need something that is compatible with that. For quieter cooling solutions, I would look into a zalman heatsink, coolermaster makes some nice heatsinks as well that do not break the wallet. I can vouch for Zalman copper coolers also, used them for Intel cpus for years. My i7 2600k rarely goes over 55C even fulled overclocked with it at 5Ghz Use Arctic Silver Ceramique compound and your sorted, or just use the zalman gunk it comes with, also good. http://www.zalman.com/global/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=
