Unable to connect to any other computers on my network

Recommended Posts

Not sure whether I should have been posting this in the normal windows forum or this one but since I'm running the preview build of Windows 10 I picked this one.

I'm unable to see either my Mac Mini or BananaPi in the network section of my Windows machine.

The BananaPi is sharing files fine with samba, has been for a while. I've not touched the configuration on it for months and it was working.  Same with the Mac.

The only thing that has changed is I was on the normal build of Windows 10 and changed it to the preview build.

I'm able to ping both devices fine.

If I browse to their IP address in explorer I get an error

Any ideas?

Have you turned on Advanced Sharing? Can the Mac Mini and BananaPi see the Windows device? I take it they are on the same subnet? I've had a few problems with the Windows 10 Firewall blocking any sort of Internal Networking. Personally, I disable the Windows Firewall in total. Too many applications to route through the firewall, and my physical firewall. Gets annoying.

Windows firewall is disabled.

Advanced sharing is enabled.

Both the Mac Mini and BananaPi can access a folder I've just shared in Windows.

  • 2 months later...

This may not solve everyone's problem with networking, but this is one way to fix a problem if you can't connect to users' computer.

1. Click start button

2. Click "My Network Places"

3. Right-click and click on "Properties"

4. Right-click on "Local Area Connection" and click on "Properties"

5. click on the "Authentication" tab

6. Uncheck "Enable network access control using IEEE 802.1X"

7. Click "OK"

Hopefully that should fix the problem.
