fr33k
same two files? sure would be nice if M$ added a process list tab to the files, and folder properties, so you could kill what was holding it.

Weasel
Happens to me too, dont know why. Sometimes its something as simple as a folder on the desktop. Rebooting always solves the problem though.

Matrox
Click (Select) the file you want to delete. Now wait a few minutes (dont click anything else) and then try to delete it. This should work. It gives Explorer time to open the file and do whatever it does with it. Not sure why it takes so long, but sometimes it does. This happens to me all the time with movie files. -Matrox
Odyssey
I have had this problem too, mostly since I converted to NTFS. One thing that always works for me is if I go to the safe mode command prompt and delete them there. I have only had to do this a few times when rebooting, or normal safe mode would not let me delete the file.
jaccod
Interesting Matrox. I had a problem file I couldn't delete and was always going to try safe mode but never remembered. I tried your tip and it worked like a charm. I highlighted it and waited a while and noticed the status bar finally told the name and type. I right clicked and deleted .....poof , gone. Thanks a lot. PS it was a 380meg avi file. jaccod
