Longhorn Preview

Recommended Posts

I was reading PC Today and was looking at this article which contradicts itself! From what I read, Windows Longhorn Beta 1 will be released in April or May of this year, but in the actual article, Scot Finnie (author) says that it won't be until 3Q or 4Q 2004 or even 1/2Q 2005. Here's what's wrong:

This is on page 7:

And this is on page 51:

As I can tell, this contradicts itself, but you'll might be able to see something I haven't

yeah, looks like it contradicts itself to me seeing as how "April or May" is not in the "second half of 2004"....although maybe that timeline is from microsoft and the article is intentionally pointing out how it is probably innaccurate....i dunno....

anyways, looking at the whole timeline thing, especially at the plans down the road (like blackcomb and such), i was wondering if there is any equation that can estimate how much microsoft's planned dates are off by...like take the time between now and when the planned date is, multiply it by some number and then you'd get the actual date (or at least a lot closer than the planned date)....that way, upcoming things (like the longhorn beta) would only be pushed back a couple months or so but distant things (like blackcomb) would be pushed back years, as will probably happen.....

I totally agree ... I was looking at that and thinking that Blackcomb is to close to the release of Longhorn. Of course, I don't really know that, we'll just have to wait 'til those dates come and if nothing comes out from Microsoft we'll know that these dates are wrong!

You know I was just looking at the WinHEC conference dates and it takes place May 4-7, 2004 and I can see the Longhorn Beta starting in April or May in time for the Conference. Maybe it is possible or maybe we'll see an update to the PDC build ... either way I think we'll get something new with Longhorn to play with ;)

Yeah it seems to contradict itself. But im not touching Longhorn until its final.

I am ... I think it's pretty cool to see the changes from build to build (when there are changes) and to get to compare them to the final product!
