BroChaos Veteran Posted March 3, 2002 Veteran Share Posted March 3, 2002 i just reformatted the other day, luckily i got through without any serious problems. but i know what you mean, though. first of all there were like 30 critical updates to install. then it trys to install them all at the same time, but that never works, only like the first or maybe second one install correctly. then you have to go and uncheck the other 28, and do that each time. really annoying. i hope sp1 makes this a lil easier. shockz
The same thing happened to me on XP Home.... i ended up returning it becuase it did something to my computer (permentaly) after it updated itself.... even after i format and reinstalled it. Edit: After it updated itself it got stuck when trying to connect to the internet and some of my games crashed or "whited" screened. Now that stuff worked before i installed xp but now after XP it happens to me on Windows 98/ME
neowin_hipster
Windows updated for Windows Me was a mess. I bsod when i was dl the critical updates. It hadn't even installed them yet. :p WindowsXP keeps having ("didn't install due to error") messages. I say manually recompiling the Linux Kernel is far easier. Because in the end, it actually works. :lick: :p :p Mandrake-update works much better too.

Guest Dclanz
I agree with Tagler. Windows update has the signed XP drivers for my modem. I'd like to get them seperate to put on a floppy or cd for backup whenever I reformat. :alien:
BroChaos Veteran Posted March 3, 2002 Veteran Share Posted March 3, 2002 doesn't it also download the stuff in C:WUTemp? perhaps there's a way to snag em from there before it deletes them...
mtgriffith
The corporate site lets you keep them to run later.
