http://www.parallelrealities.co.uk/blobWars.php

In Blob Wars : Metal Blob Solid, you take on the role of a fearless Blob agent, Bob. But standing in his way are many vicious aliens, other Blobs who have been assimilated and the evil alien leader, Galdov.

UFO: Alien Invasion [turn-based, multiplayer support]

http://ufo.myexp.de/

UFO: ALIEN INVASION is a strategy game featuring tactical combat against hostile alien forces which are about to infiltrate earth at this very moment. You are in command of a small special unit which has been founded to face the alien strike force. To be successful on the long run, you will also have to have a research team study the aliens and their technologies in order to learn as much as possible about their technology, their goals and the aliens themselves.

'UFO: Alien Invasion' is heavily inspired by the 'X-COM' series by Mythos and Microprose. The first game of the series, 'UFO DEFENSE', became a classic and, in our honest opinion, is one of the best games ever made.

'UFO: Alien Invasion' is neither a sequel nor a remake of 'UFO DEFENSE' - we simply had the urge to create a similar strategy game, which will hopefully be as entertaining as the original was for the players (and for the developers, of course ;) ).

The Ur-Quan Masters - [sci-Fi - Strategy]

http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

A remake of Star Control 2, a great oldie. One of the best!

DosBox - [Emulator?]

http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1

With this you can play a LOT (and I mean A LOT, as in the opposite of a few) of the old dos games. It is one of the must haves for my system, as I am heavily into classic and nostalgia games. I'll take this over WINE any day. This allows me to dig out my cherished games such as the Settlers, Heroes of Might and Magic, XCOM, Pizza Tycoon, Populous, Sim Ant, Command and Conquer.. etc et.. I could fill up the page :). They just don't make 'em like they used to.

Other than those, there are also emulators for many other game types console and arcade. I will leave these up to you to find due to questionable legality in some peoples eyes ;).

RIP Loki.

Savage - [Real Time Strategy/First Person Shooter (great mix of both)]

http://www.s2games.com/savage/

Choose to be a commander and you will play an in-depth RTS managing the stronghold, or choose to be a warrior and you will play an intense game of first person combat. With the creation of a new game play genre, RTSS (Real Time Strategy Shooter), Savage expertly redefines the first-person shooter and real-time strategy genres by combining elements of both into one cohesive experience.

Simply my favorite game on Linux.

Can't believe nobody mentioned ClanBomber! Anyway, here's the link: http://clanbomber.sourceforge.net/

However, my favourite games in Linux are Quake 3 Arena and BZFlag, plus I got GTA Vice City working under Cedega (have to disable intro videos).

I'm rather hurt that no one had mentioned this game yet, but I'm sure I'll live.

Deadly Rooms of Death - [Turn based Puzzle Game]

(Taken from the "What is DROD?" article on DROD.net found here.)

"Of course, Beethro has an advantage. Unlike aforesaid games with characters with oversized swords, Beethro is experienced in killing all sorts of creatures, so it only takes waving the sword in their square to kill them; and Beethro has as much time as he needs to decide what to do. Every turn, he decides whether to move (using the number pad by default), wait (using the 5 on the number pad), or rotate his sword 45 degrees (using Q for clockwise and W for anticlockwise by default), and the game will pause while you decide his next step. Beethro makes his move, then the monsters (many puzzles taking advantage of this fact), so what could have been a frantic, and nigh on impossible, game of hack-and-slash becomes a violent but intelligent puzzle game.

And DROD has some of the toughest puzzles you'll ever see. Some will have you collapsing trapdoors and opening doors; some will have you coaxing invincible monsters into dead-ends; some will have you turning the monsters own attacks against them. And the last handful has you going up against their leader, the 'Neather, who delights in slamming doors in your face and sending wave after wave of monsters to kill you. It's a touching tale that parallels most of our daily existence, and the path to take to break free of our mundane existence and live the life we've always wanted. It's a cunning parable that would make Confucius proud."

America's Army - 3D Action (FPS)

http://www.americasarmy.com

This is a great free game endorsed by the U.S. Army and it's multi-platform (it has Windows, Macintosh and Linux clients).

Note: Neowin has an official clan at this game: The Neowin 1st Armory Division

This is the best available, although they NEED the patch. Then the next one i would vote for is Wolfenstein ET

  • 1 month later...

Some of these are probally listed but anyways.

TREMULOUS (Originally a Quake3 mod but it's now available as a standalone)

http://tremulous.net

Great Alien Vs Marines mod, lot's of fun.

Wolfenstein ET (Everyone knows about this, you will need it for ETF so get it!)

http://www.3dgamers.com/games/wolfensteinet/downloads/

ETF (Teamfortress mod for Wolfenstein ET, used to be for Quake3)

http://www.etfgame.com

I've been playing ETF latley it's too bad the size of the community is so small only a handful of servers left, every evening there are ussually people to play on a server called RailBait. If you like Quake, Teamfortress or TFC then I suggest you check this out. Perhaps the best looking TF mod and also one that is very close to the original, so much fun to play too bad I'm not the best :D

PS: I'm not a fan of the 3D penguins.

    • OpenClaw now has native mobile apps on iOS and Android by Karthik Mudaliar OpenClaw, the viral open-source personal AI agent, now has its own mobile app, available on both Android and iOS. Users can pair the app with an existing OpenClaw gateway and can start using new mobile-native features that are now available on the app. The app supports all the existing features you'd already have seen on OpenClaw's TUI, as well as some more, such as real-time and background Talk mode, action approvals, sharing from iOS, and optional access to device capabilities such as camera, screen, location, photos, contacts, calendar, and reminders. These features are available on both the Android and iOS versions of the app. What's important with these apps is that they don't run OpenClaw on your phone, but are actually just companion apps that require a running OpenClaw Gateway on an existing device, on macOS, Linux, or Windows via WSL2. To pair the app with your existing OpenClaw gateway, users need to run the command "/pair qr" on the TUI or existing chat interface, which brings up a QR code. Users can then scan this QR code to pair it up with the mobile app. There's also an option to manually pair the app by entering the host and a port. Previously, OpenClaw had been available on phones via WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, Matrix, and others. Now, with a native mobile app, the interface is much cleaner and more focused on just the OpenClaw, of course, with the added support for camera, screen, location, and more. It's important to note that OpenClaw comes with its own security warnings. There's always a chance of prompt injection with these tools, so users are recommended to double-check authentication, tool policy, sandboxing, and execution approvals rather than prompts alone. For users well-versed with the AI harness, a native mobile app makes it easier to approve an automation, share a link, use voice, or let an agent react to phone-side context.
    • Google pitches Spanner as one database for all AI agents with these new featues by Karthik Mudaliar Google Cloud is introducing new features within Spanner, its distributed database, as a place where enterprises should keep their data, using which AI agents could make smarter and better decisions. In a detailed blog post, Google highlighted quite a few features coming to Spanner, including relational data, graph relationships, vector search, key-value access, full-text search, and operational analytics together in one database architecture. Google says that today's systems aren't well-made for AI agents. There could be data that is present in one system, search indexes in another, embeddings in a vector database, and relationship data in a graph database. This fragmentation isn't great for AI agents to do their jobs because they don't have access to all of this data in one place. This is where Google is positioning Spanner as a solution. Spanner is already a globally distributed relational database with strong consistency, and Google wants its customers to see it as a broader data layer for AI applications. The company introduced something called Spanner Graph, along with integrated vector search, full-text search, a Cassandra-compatible key-value endpoint, and a columnar engine for analytical queries on operational data. Google also added that its ScaNN-powered vector search can support indexes with more than 10 billion vectors, while the columnar engine can make some analytical scans up to 200 times faster. All of this isn't just exclusive to the Google Cloud Platform, and there's support for multi-cloud as well. This comes via Spanner Omni, which Google says is a downloadable, containerized version of Spanner that can run on Kubernetes and in environments outside Google Cloud, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, and even on-premises infrastructure as well as edge deployments. Google says that customers who are interested in the full-featured edition should contact the company, and there's no word on commercial availability or separate pricing. Those interested can read the full blog by Google Cloud, which details these features individually.
