I tend to agree with Winston, this thread should be closed. maybe create a new sticky thread on building an OS?

I think we pick on Elagizy way too much in this thread to allow people to bring it to life again.

Oh, and Windows ME did run on top of DOS just like 95 and 98. The only difference was that they hid it more. That, and they tested it a lot less (probably when they realized XP was coming along faster than expected).

Sorry, but this is incorrect. Win95/98/ME did not run on top of DOS. They were a new OS. They did have remnants of 16bit DOS built in to enable it to run real-mode DOS applications (The NT family OS never allowed real mode DOS applications to run as they would try to have direct access to the hardware, something that NT does not allow)

I was part of the beta team and ClubWin (sponsered by Brad Silverberg at MS) for Win95, all the way back to Jan 1993.
