paraman Posted March 12, 2005 Share Posted March 12, 2005 I hope I am posting this in the right section. Recently a problem has developed in my TV. Sometimes what is happening is that random colour patches (orange, green etc) appear mostly around the edges of the picture tube. When I keep the tv switched off for the night then these colour patches disappear. Why is this happening and is this something to be worried about? Is it a sign of the pic. tube failing? Deactivated Account Posted March 12, 2005 Share Posted March 12, 2005 so me it sounds like Magnets close to your TV. do you have any Speakers near/on/beside your TV ? if so remove them. and i know that there is a tool out there that will remove the discoler but dont know what its called. Speakers of which are placed high up on the wall about 10ft away from the tv. Computer monitors have 'degauss' command which deals with this but what about tv's. SonComet Posted March 13, 2005 Share Posted March 13, 2005 Something similar happened to my cousin's 27" sony xbr (it was 1994) when it fell flat on its face in the earthquake. It had a pink patch in one corner and a green in the other. However, they would never go away and it would have cost more than the tv to fix it. So they bought a new tv instead. It had big side mounted speakers on it if that means anything (maybe the shielding was destroyed?). Also, what tv is this? I know that the 40" sony xbr has some known problems with developing green patches. Maybe your tv has a problem with developing them too? But I have been using this tv for the last 7-8 years. The problems with the tube have begun only now. So it cant be due to the position of the speakers. I guess its time to invest in something newer :(. Owell, atleast non-hdtv flat crt tvs are pretty cheap. Piepke Posted March 20, 2005 Share Posted March 20, 2005 Sounds like the degaussing isn't working propperly anymore. I've had this problem before with medical monitors, sometimes it was caused by bad components, sometimes the tube needed replacement. Find yourself a tv repairman, a friend or so, he may be able to repair it for much less than a new TV.
