Ferret
If I was in the same position as them, then believe me, I would do another space walk just to fix it !!! No ****er tells me what to do !
vincent
If I was in the same position as them, then believe me, I would do another space walk just to fix it !!!No ****er tells me what to do ! 586327797 this what it boils down to. ensuring the safety of the crew and the shuttle upon re-entry and losing your job when you return despite orders. Or just following orders and keeping your job as an astronaut. If that was me i'd do the spacewalk, repair the shuttle more, and face the fire from my boss not the re-entry. Deathray
Im sure the astronauts could just tell them they dont feel safe and want to repair it. NASA won't be like- not allowed, you must put your life at risk. If the astronauts are upset with it, they do have a big say since they're in the only shuttle that's working lol. If NASA ****es em off, do a hard landing and destroy all the tiles on the bottom of the shuttle. I hope the astronauts aint reading this. No matter where you are in this universe, Neowin is for you :p

theyarecomingforyou
Isn't it worrying that the Shuttle, after all the upgrades and alterations for safety, seems to be the most unsafe it's ever been? The faulty fuel gauge would have worried me more, though. NASA have the top paid professionals in the business and they can't even get a fuel gauge to work properly? It would be best if they just ditched the Shuttle and waited for the Crew Exploration Vehicle to come into operation. The Shuttle was only meant as a temporary measure and it has become a liability. If NASA ****es em off, do a hard landing and destroy all the tiles on the bottom of the shuttle. I hope the astronauts aint reading this. 586327831 Don't they replace the tiles for every launch anyway?
Deathray
Why in the mean time haven't they created an interm space shuttle with the current design. The current design has done fairly well, it's just time that is ruining it since they are so outdated. These shuttles with the latest technology could have sensors all over the hull with perhaps newer, and stronger materials. theyarecomingforyou- Never knew that, i thought they only replaced damaged tiles
Kst
Nasa has been in the shuttle business for over 20 years now, i think they know by now "they don't need no stinking gap fillers" What i want to know is who is the members of the 200 mile high club :shifty:
Malbojia
too freaking cheap to upgrade basicly. Take it like a computer it's the low end of shuttles like what the russians have but the russians do it cheaper and way better.
Boffa Jones Veteran Posted August 5, 2005 Veteran Share Posted August 5, 2005 The reason tehy went ahead with the fuel sensor not working is because they needed i think two out of four functioning properly and they had three. Those may not be the exact numbers but thats the basic idea.

It's just you'd think the difficulty with the Shuttle would be calculating the tolerances of materials or predicting the aerodynamics, not designing a working fuel sensor... that's like perfecting a teleporter but having a faulty power switch. It's interesting that Russia seems to have avoided all these issues in recent years... sure, it's pretty crude, but it works.
