Rice tells Syria to quit meddling

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has called for Syria to stop interference in Lebanon and cut travel of insurgents across its border into Iraq.

Rice made the call on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly meeting in New York, Voice of America said.

"Syria needs to get on the right side of events that are going on in the Middle East. That means to cut off the routes that insurgents are using to use Syrian territory to penetrate into Iraq and to kill innocent Iraqis," Rice said Monday. "That means to close off support for Palestinian rejectionists who are the single biggest threat to progress in the Israeli-Palestinian rapprochement, and to again to make certain that nothing is being done to interfere in the affairs of Lebanon."

Rice made the remarks after meeting with newly elected Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, senior officials of six other countries and the European Union.

By right side she obviously means her side of course.

And since they're effectively doing nothing right now, wouldn't her suggestions be in effect....them *starting* to meddle, just meddling in a helpful manner...
