removing on screen display of volume in MCE

Recommended Posts

thats part of a driver or something, not media center edition. show us your running processes and msconfig startup tab.

I say that because I had it once as part of my media keyboard.

ya i had it then it dissapeared but the other day i re-runned my media extender setup(for my 360) and it reappeared

2 sec for screen of msconfig and processes

are you using a remote control? the OSD looks like the MSI System Control Manager (SCM) which is used to listen to remote commands

what type of computer do you have? an MSI Media Center barebones?

i don't have a brand name media center. my motherboard is a msi k8t800pro chipset k8t neo2

built my own. i had a harmony remote but it did not appear with that. it really re appeared when i ran setup for the media extender

i tried uninstalling my keyboards software (ms digital media pro) reboot then reinstall but even with no drivers installed the volume still shows up. :(

windows does not support volume OSD like you see. there is some third party app drawing the osd when the volume is adjusted.

Try killing tasks (the non critcal ones) one by one. then test if the OSD shows. eventually you will find the app/process that is doing the osd. once you find what service it is, do a search on your computer for it and then remove it/uninstall it

ya i noticed cause when i boot up. it doesn't apear right away i can change volume and it doesn't appear then all of sudden it does :(

got it :)

it was ehtray in msconfig :)

i think its directly part of media center edition of XP. whenever i have xp mce installed its always there from initial bootup. i would think that it could be ehtray service which displays it

found this from another forum:

"

ehmsas.exe 5.1.2700.2180 Media Center Media Status Aggregator Service 1033

ehRecvr.exe 5.1.2700.2230 Media Center Receiver Service 1033

ehSched.exe 5.1.2700.2180 Media Center Scheduler Service 1033

ehtray.exe 5.1.2700.2180 Media Center Tray Applet

All these are needed to run the Media Center. Without these running then your Media center will not run/ or run smoothly. The ehtray.exe is just the tray Applet but it is still a vital part of MCE.

ehtray.exe is only to start mce with your remote.

But it has the bad side effect that , when you try to control your volume with your keyboard , it has an on screen display ,in green.

Most games crash on that.

I tried mce without running it , and had no problems.

you could do what i do... just kill ehtray.exe before you start a game and then restart it when you get out of the game. I have 3r-1c for my OSD of volume and it messes up games if i leave it running so i make sure to kill it before starting a game.
